Chapter 12

Caitlyn's POV (multiple)

As I walked to the park I thought about how hanging out with Connor would go. We would most likely just play some basketball. He was kind of shy when we met and I'm not like Tessa around guys. She's so confident and acts like she know what she is doing while I am nervous and not as good at speaking.

"Hey Caitlyn!" a voice calls out to me. I turn around and see that it's Connor coming to meet me.

"Hey Connor!" I call back to him. "You ready to get beat at some basketball?"

"Only if today is opposite day!" he exclaims as he catches up to me. We started talking as we finished walking to the park and I learned that he had played basketball in middle school just like I had.

Connor's POV

I was so excited for today that I had picked out, pumped up, and brought my two best basketballs for Caitlyn and I. Even though I had just met her, I already felt a connection forming between us and I trusted her with something so important to me like my favorite basketballs.

"So, how long have you played basketball for?" I asked her.

"I started playing in middle school." She told me.

"Oh really? Me too!" I exclaimed. Now I knew another thing that we had in common with each other.

"Well here we are and I specially reserved the best court and brought my best basketballs for us to use." I told her.

"That's sweet of you but I prefer to use my own basketballs since I don't know what the competitor has done to mine." She said with a smug expression on her face. It almost hurt that she would think I did something to her basketball and then I remembered that she is from Maine, where sarcasm is used a lot.

"Let's get on with the game. One on one, first to- let's say, thirty-seven- wins."

Meanwhile...

Ethelyn's POV

OH MY GOSH I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I thought to myself. I felt good wearing the clothes I bought yesterday and knew that I am going to rock this movie date. Or at least I hope I am... But all that confidence shriveled up and blew away like dust when I saw Cambell walk in the movie theater's entrance.

"Hi Cambell." I said.

"Hey Ethelyn. You look good today." He said back. That made my heart warm like popcorn in the microwave even though it was only a little comment.

"Thank you. I could say the same for you." I replied with a smile. "What movie do you want to see?"

"I don't know. What do you want to see?" he asked me.

"Um, maybe The Red Rose? It's a good romance with adventure about a hunt for one red rose." I suggested.

"Okay. I'm good with that." He said.

Cambell's POV

Even though I wanted to go to a more adventurous movie, The Red Rose is a good choice for us because it puts both wants into one movie.

"Do you want anything to eat or drink?" I decided to ask her. This would be a perfect opportunity for me to be as smooth as Paden by buying Ethelyn something.

"Sure. I'll get a small popcorn and a Dr. Pepper." She said. "What will get?"

"I'll get a medium popcorn and a Coke." I said. "And I'll buy too."

"You don't have to do that, Cambell." She said to me.

"I know I don't have to but I want to. So I'm buying." I said finalizing my decision. After I bought everything we headed into the theater to watch the movie. I knew I was going to be happy as I realized that Ethelyn was even prettier than she had been at the pool and I was lucky enough to get her to say yes to going to a movie with me. My excitement was short-lived when I remembered Washington. If we are really meant to be together she will understand and not judge right...?

***658 words! I would like to shout out NikithaSam and her book which was the story line of the movie Ethelyn and Cambell go and see. She is an amazing writer and helps me sometimes with my book as I do with hers so go read her book! Keep telling me feedback and what you guys like about my book or don't like.
