Kota's POV
"He hasn't woken up since surgery." The nurse sighed as she said these words.
"What?!" I yelled after a few seconds of stunned silence. What?! How could she not have told us earlier?! It was our business to know what was going on!
I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder. "Kota," It was Ty's voice whispering into my ear. "Sshh, it's okay. No need to yell."
"What, Ty?! I have every right to what's going on with my boyfriend's physical health!" My voice began to crack and die off towards the end of that sentence and the rage was replaced with sadness, worry, and a feeling that I honestly can't even describe. I turned my head into Ty's shoulder for a minute, trying my best to calm down.
The nurse looked a little worried. "I'm sorry," She said. "I should have just told you."
I looked away from Ty and spoke to the nurse. "No, it's okay. You were only trying to spare us from, well, what happened just there." I forced a smile and she nodded, then turned and headed down the hallway.
I stood there, completely still for a moment, before calling to her. "Wait!." She turned and looked up at me with a look of question on her face.
"Yes, can I help you?" She questioned, stopping in front of me once again.
I just came right out and said it. "I want to see him."
Ty whipped his head around, looking at me, shocked. "Kota, are you sure you..."
I looked back at him with an expression that showed that I wasn't going to change my mind. "Yes, I'm sure. I don't care if he can't talk to me, or even know that I'm there. I love him, I want to see him." Ty nodded in understanding.
The nurse hesitated, then smiled slightly. "Very well, just follow me." I nodded and Ty took my hand as we strolled through the long, depressing, empty, white halls.
We finally stopped at one of the doors. His room wasn't in any special hospital unit, the nurse told me he hadn't been out of it long enough to be put in an extended care unit. As she had described it, "He could wake up in a few minutes, hours, days, or he could be out for months, so since he hasn't even been out for a full day he has not been placed in an extended care unit." I wasn't sure if this should be comforting or make me worry more. It helped to know that he could wake up right there and then, but I couldn't help but stress over the fact that he may not wake up for months.
The nurse, who's name I had learned was Ashley, placed a pale hand on the doorknob, quietly pushing open the door. She allowed us to enter the room, staying behind so we could have some "alone time" as she put it.
I rushed over to the bedside, Ty silently walking behind me. It only took a few seconds for a tear to escape, dropping onto the metal bed rail, as I looked sadly at Jason's bandaged, motionless body. His left leg was wrapped in a blue cast, coincidentally his favorite color, preventing it from moving at all. His left arm was in a sling and there were some smaller bandages in multiple other places, including his face, covering up smaller cuts. His face was slightly bruised, as was most of his body, but, strangely enough, he looked peaceful laying there, under a white blanket on a hospital bed. I carefully brushed a few locks of hair away from his face as another tear escaped from my bloodshot eyes. I had barely slept the previous night. I leaned down and kissed his forehead, placing my hand on his right cheek.
Then Ty walked up next to me. He looked tired as well. He looked as though he might cry, but I knew he wouldn't let himself. I rarely see him cry, probably a pride thing. However, to my surprise, I saw a single tear swiftly roll down his cheek, and he made no attempt to wipe it away. He placed his hand on Jason's arm and just stood there, looking at him, speechless. I knew that if I wasn't there he probably would have been crying a bit more, maybe talking to Jason, telling him to wake up, but not now, not with me standing right in front of him. He was staying strong for my sake. Thank you, Ty. His lips parted ever so slightly and the words that came out were just barely audible, but I heard them, whether I was meant to or not. "Please wake up soon, Jason." Then he withdrew his hand and glanced at me. "I think I'm gonna go wait in the hallway, but you can stay for a bit longer." I nodded and he turned, walking out the door and quietly shutting it behind him.
