Behind the Curtains

"Alyssa! Wait up!" Habol ni Dennise kay Alyssa. The latter did not even bother to stop in her tracks. Tuloy tuloy lang siya sa paglalakad ignoring the small girl's bickering.

It was hard for Dennise's part to convince the phenom to join the University's theatrical play knowing that she does not fancy this type of activity. Dennise herself didnt even like the idea of being part of the crew in the first place, but the thought of failing one of her subjects forced her to just go along with it.

"Alyssa Caymo Valdez!!" Her voice echoed along the hallway causing other students to turn their heads in surprise.
Napilitang lumingon si Alyssa kay Dennise sa sobrang kahihiyan.

"Dennise, bingi ka ba o hindi ka talaga nakakaintindi ng tagalog? My answer is no and thats -"

"Papayag ka ba kung si Rad ang partner mo sa play? And besides, I'll be there to help you out naman eh" Dennise's words came in like a gush of water making Alyssa choke back her words.

"A-ano?" Unbelievable. This girl doesn't really know when to stop.

"You heard me right, so what do you say?" Dennise smirk didn't escape Alyssa's sight and the latter knew that the girl in front of her has the upper hand in their current situation.

"If I'd say yes, would you stop pestering me around?"  Sumuko na din si Alyssa.

"YES! YES!" Den couldn't help herself but beam with pride. Out of all the other theatre members who attempted to pursue the phenom, she was the only one who succeeded.

"Makulit na nga, maingay pa. Aish"
Sayang maganda pa man din sana.

Days passed and so far the rehearsals went well much to Dennise's surprise. She didn't expect Alyssa Valdez to actually cooperate with the whole production team knowing that she was just forced in the first place.

The chemistry between the two lead actors was also evident. Rachel and Alyssa looked at each other as if they both longed for that moment to happen. Or that was what Dennise thought.

"You did great! Didn't know may hidden talent ka pala Aly! Hahaha" Dennise complimented the tall girl sitting in front of her. "Si RAD lang pala katapat mo eh!" Dagdag asar pa nito.

The two were left alone inside the dressing room. Nauna na ang ibang members ng prod team dahil hectic daw ang schedule nila.

Alyssa immediately stopped fixing her stuff when she heard Dennise's words. She tightened her grip on the shirt she was holding, frustration started to build inside of her along with the tears forming under her eyes.

"Dennise, hanggang dito ba naman ba ay magpapanggap tayo as if nothing's wrong between us?! As if hindi mo ako hiniwalayan two weeks ago?!" Alyssa raged out which made den jump from her seat.

"Alyssa..." Dennise couldn't help but cry. Eto na naman tayo.

"Den, to tell you honestly, hindi si rad ang dahilan kung bakit ako sumali sa play na to. The time you told me that you'd  be there whenever i need your help, remember that? That's the reason why I joined this shit. Just to be with you Dennise, just to be with you"

Alyssa pulled Den for hug. A hug which poured out all the emotions that were built inside Alyssa's heart all this time. But Dennise pulled away.

"We better get going Aly" Dennise motioned Alyssa to leave the room. "It has been a long day for you, pagod ka na siguro"

Oo Dennise, pagod na ako

The play was done well, considering the fact the cast portrayed their roles impressively.

The play ended yet Rachel 'acts of sweetness didn't. She kept following Alyssa around and it never escaped Den's sight. The two would constantly cling unto each other as if they were still in the play, the chemistry never faded. Halos daigin pa nilang dalawa ang linta.

Masakit pero ginusto mo yan diba?

"Alyssa!" Gretch called out. "Congratulations nga pala! I thought you were gonna fail that subject, but thanks to that play, you made it!" Gretch excitedly announced to Alyssa who was currently eating with Rachel inside the cafeteria.

"Teka nga Ho, what do you mean?" Alyssa asked, obviously confused.

"Kasi ganito yan, remember those times na you almost failed the examinations prof gave us? Yung related sa arts and stuff?"

"Uhuh" Alyssa nodded.

"Prof told the prod team na isali ka sa play to make it up for your exams and Dennise knew about it kasi sinabihan din siya ni prof so she kinda forced you. Buti nalang pala at nandyan si De-"

"Huh? So all this time- shit!" Alyssa abruptly stood up and ran out of the cafeteria. Agad siyang dumiretso sa lugar kung saan niya makikita si Den.

Now it all makes sense. The time Den broke up with her was also the time she failed her examinations. Den had always been grade conscious, whether its her or alyssa's.

Behind the curtains, inside the dressing room.

The door swung open revealing the busy Dennise. The sound made den look and drop the props she was holding.

"Alys-" Den was cut midway by an unexpected kiss from the tall girl in front of her. She hesitated at first but soon gave in to the kiss.

They both pulled away, panting.

"I love you, stubborn little girl. Akala mo siguro hindi ko malalaman ano?"

"Sorry Alyssa. I though I was a distraction kaya naman hiniwalayan kita. But please do believe me when I say that I love you, because I really d-" Den was cut off by a kiss once again.

"Forgiven"

And they both shared the sweetest kiss behind the curtains.
