My wife and my father have a great relationship. I could never win an argument with my wife if my father was in earshot, even if she was dead wrong.

His love for her is obvious.

He is hurting; he is not able to visit Jess in the hospital due to his compromised immune system and his being in a wheel chair.

He is hurting even more knowing that BettyJane is hurting so deeply right now, and there is very little he can do to comfort her.

So earlier in the day I sent a text out to him and my mom, bringing them up to date with my life's events and how BettyJane was holding up.

I just got a ding on my phone and a text appeared, "Please stop texting me. I am not your dad."

That's strange, so I text back, "What do you mean you're not my dad, lol?"

Ding – "I don't know who you are, I would appreciate if you stop texting me, I just lost my father last week."

I look down at the number I was texting, and I realize it is off by one digit, so I text back, "I am truly sorry for your loss – wrong number, my mistake."

An immediate ding comes back, "Cherish your days with your dad."

I sit there and stare at the screen of my phone for what seems like an hour and I brace myself for what is to come...
