Nate moves the tire swing and I smile. My phone rings, "Ughh. Who is calling me?! I have literally no friends!" I grab my phone and look at it. It's Pete. I answer it, "Hey, what's up?" I am slightly worried, since usually when I get phone calls something bad is gonna happen.

"Okay so I'm not very smart and I realized that I can just text you their numbers. Also, the tickets have been sent. They should be there tomorrow. I would have texted this, but I am lazy." I am able to calm down, now that I know he isn't hurt and everything is okay. "Wow. Alright. Well, hopefully you aren't too lazy. You have to send the numbers." He chuckles, "I already did. Well. I'll talk to you later. Byeeee" I smile, "Bye."

We hang up and I look at my phone. I open Pete's message and click the numbers. I make a group chat with them both and send a message.

B: Hey, this is Pete's adopted daughter. He sent me your numbers and. Wow. This sounds kinda creepy. Uhh. I'll just... Sorry.

I send the message, before I noticed how cringe worthy it is. I stare at the message, and jump slightly when I get a reply.

D: Ahaha. Wow. So. Brittany, yeah?

P: Yea, obviously Daniel

D: Don't judge me Philip.

B: Stop fighting in my presence. Are you two next to each other?

P: Maaaaybeeee *insert lion emoji*

I giggle and look at Nate. "Who are they?", he asks. "Dan and Phil." I look back at my phone to see them fighting about what they should eat later.

D: Asian!

P: But tacos!

B: Both. Asian tacos

D+P: Whaaaaat?

B: Yes. Lol. I gtg. I'm at a park and it's getting really hot out. I'm about to burn to death.

D: Goodbye young one

P: Bye small cinnamon roll

B: that's you Phil. Bye.

I tug on Nate's arm, "Let's go. It's hot out. I want to go home." He smiles, "Alright." We both begin to walk home.

It wasn't too dark out yet, but the sun was going down slowly. The sky was turning a nice pastel color. I hum quietly as we walk. "I didn't notice how far the park is from home.", he mumbles. I nod, "Well, we did run here. I'm gonna go on your back" I climb onto his back,
"I just realized why I might be so hot. I have a long sleeved shirt on.. And skinny jeans.." I giggle quietly. "And a hat."

He continues to walk as I look at the sky. "We will make it home before dark, right...?" Nate must have sensed a feeling of worry in my voice. "Of course we will! I'll make sure we will." I nod and put my head on his shoulder. "I feel tall." He chuckles, "I am tall."

He hums as he walks. I zone out, listening to the humming. I twirl his hair around one of my fingers. "Brittany..", he speaks up, snapping me out of my daydreams. "Yeah?", I mumble. "Why does Alessia and Sara not like you?" I sigh and shrug. "I have no idea. I've always been there for them. When Alessia was upset because people stole stuff from her. I ran all the way to the orphanage, just to make sure she was okay. And I felt bad that I couldn't be there for her. Sara and I would always be together. She was basically my sister. We were always attached. Then she was adopted. We didn't talk as much after that..."

Nate nods, "Yeah. So basically, they have no real reason..?" "Yup..", I said with a shaky breath. I close my eyes, and see my old family. Near a fireplace, with my brother next to me. My brother... I smile, I haven't seen him in years. The only one that stuck around after mom started to hate me. I open my eyes and look up. The house is coming into view.  With my new family, that is better. They won't leave me or abandon me.

I love my new family...
