Chapter Forty-Four // {jordan's pov}

I sat up slowly in my bed. It was the best sleep that I've ever had. I turned to look at the look on the bedside table.

9:44am

I felt slightly guilty for waking up so late. I stretched my arms up above my head while yawning. I wasn't tired for once. I pulled myself off of the bed, my feet met the carpet below me. Sunlight poured in through the two large windows, almost blinding me. I gracefully stepped over to the closet where I hung the clothes Jessie had given me last night. I grabbed a pale green and navy flannel and a pair of dark blue jeans.

After I dressed, I laced up my combat boots and put on my holster, I made sure all my weapons were there besides a small knife I had hidden inside the house for protection.

I went downstairs and as soon as I reached the bottom, someone knocked on the door. The sound made me feel uneasy. It was unusual to hear and I would need time to adjust to this.

I quickly made my way to the door and opened it. It was Aaron and Eric. I smiled at them both.

"G'morning," I greeted and stepped aside to let them in.

"Good morning, we won't come in, we're just letting you know that we're going back out. Deanna also asked us to let you know that there is a welcome party for you tonight at her house," Aaron informed with a grin.

I furrowed my eyebrows, "welcome party?"

"It's a tradition here. Deanna may tell you your job for around here too," Eric added. That's one stupid tradition.

I nodded as he spoke, "well, stay safe out there," I replied, truly meaning what I said.

"We will. Jessie may have something for you to wear by the way! See you soon, Jordan," Aaron said with a small smile. I waved to them as they walked off of my porch and down the street. I closed the door and walked into the kitchen to find something to eat.

Aaron and Eric were definitely people to trust here. Jessie too. We got along pretty well. It wasn't like my relationship with Beth, Maggie or Michonne, but it was the closest I'd have to it. But, Aaron and Eric were nice to me straight off the bat. They trusted me even though I could've been a serial killer. On the bad side, they could get themselves killed that way.

I poured some corn flakes into a bowl. Only a small amount because I was used to extremely small servings. I ate it silently, letting my mind run wild. I felt really alone in this large house. I felt extremely guilty for being here. My family was out there trying to survive with two kids. I left because I said I didn't want the world to go back to normal. I am a hypocrite because here I am. In a community. In a kitchen eating cornflakes.

I snapped out of my thoughts, realising that I had bit my lip again, causing it to bleed. I sighed deeply before putting my empty bowl in the sink.

I walked outside and onto the street. Two children raced past me, yelling and laughing. I felt the need to tell them to shut their mouths, but we had walls. No walkers were going to get in until someone made a mistake of leaving the gate open. However, humans could get in.

I decided to stroll around the place until it was time for me to get ready for this party...
