Chapter Twenty // {jordan's pov / 10 months before the apocalypse}
›
I sat at my desk, looking outside. The city of Atlanta. The streets were busy as usual. I focused back on my computer. I was supposed to be writing an email to a nearby college who wanted to have a training day with our very own police officers including myself. It was set to be in 4 months time for all the new students that join up.
APD often did stuff with schools in the local areas, it made us look better and it also helped us gain future officers.
My iPhone started ringing, playing Free The Animal by Sia, startling me. I left it ringing for a bit, humming to the song.
"Detonate me,
Shoot me like a cannon ball.
Granulate me,
Kill me like an animal.
Decapitate me,
Hit me like a baseball.
Emancipate me,
Free the animal."I picked up the phone and answered it.
"Hello, Officer Taylor speaking..."
"Hey sweets, it's mom," she spoke. I love how she thinks that we're all good. In reality, I hate her.
"Uh, hi, sort of busy," I replied, tapping my desk impatiently.
"It'll only take a minute," she said coldly. This is exactly what I mean, her mood and tone would change in seconds. Two faced as hell.
"What do you want, mother?" I replied using the same tone to piss her off. I wouldn't even call her my mother anymore.
"Don't you dare use that tone with me! Just because your Dad left, that doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want!" she spoke angrily. I chuckled.
"Just because my Dad left, that doesn't mean you need to turn into a bitch, oh wait, you were one from the very beginning," I said nonchalantly. I could hear her sighing.
"You're such a problem child, why can't you be like your brother?"
"Why did you have to drive Dad away?" I mimicked her tone. Two beeps came through the phone.
She hung up.
My Mom hasn't called in weeks and when she does, we always end up arguing. My Dad left because of her and her stupid sleeping around.
She loved to sleep with different guys because apparently it makes her feel better about herself. I would be surprised if she hadn't caught a disease yet.
I've always been a daddy's girl. I loved getting down and dirty, playing football. Swimming in the river was our personal favourite. It's probably why I chose to become an officer.
But now, my Dad lives somewhere in New York while I'm here in Atlanta, Georgia.
Part of the reason why I don't want to get married is my mother and father. I don't want to end up like her. She told me ever since I was young, I'll always be like her and I'll never be able to change that. I've tried to make sure my life is strictly about my job and nothing else.
I live by it.
