Why are we dying to live when we're just living to die?

-Tupac

Christian POV

I been running too long. I'm starting to get the feel that they got what they want and that's Laney. Here I am in Miami and ain't got shit but money and a reputation.

"Another one." I told the bartender. He refilled my cup with the strongest thing he had. I sat in this bar waiting... Waiting on Laney.

"You been here for six hours kid." The bartender frowned.

"Do you wanna keep getting my money or keep tryna figure me out?" I mugged him. He threw his hands up and bagged away.

"Laney Cole..."

I quickly zoomed in to the tv once I heard that name. I saw them arresting her in front of this barber shop they said about two weeks ago. Today is the day for her trial.

"That girl is bad." A man that sat next to me spoke.

"Sister got a lot of balls to do half the stuff she did. I can't even kill a bird, let alone kill a person." A woman spoke on Laney.

"She just misunderstood." I mumbled. Everyone looked at me.

"Don't I know you?" The woman squinted at me.

"Christian Leighton. That's my girl they about to give life to." I mumbled. I don't care anymore.

Life not even the same if Laney not here with me. It's crazy but she bought light to my life more than anyone else.

"She just need another chance." I dropped my head down on the table. I could feel everyone in the club staring at me.

"Okay don't move. I'm going to call the cops." The bartender said.

"Call them." I pulled my gun out and placed it towards my head.

"Noooooo!" Everyone screamed.

Laney POV

My lawyer, Gina Macintosh, was a slick talker. She was quick on her words and smart on her information. I watched her chew everyone up in the court room.

Holmes came through with the forensic work and Gina is convincing everyone Jamal was the mastermind. I just hate we have to use his name in vein.

"No further questions your honor..." Gina sat back down and crossed her legs.

"Recess." The judge banged her gavel. I stood up and met up with Jory. She came to support me.

"You looked nervous." She sounded nervous.

"Naw I'm okay." I looked around looking for someone.

"Who you looking for?" She slightly frowned as she looked around.

"Nobody." I finally looked at her.

"Gina is hot up there." Jory tried to bring light to the situation.

"If I get off would I really be off?" I squinted my eyes at Jory.

"What you mean?" She leaned her head to the side confused.

"I mean this world not built for criminals. My life will still be the same only difference is I don't have to run. I'm better off next to Jamal." I said straight up . No need of me lying.

"Don't say that!" Jory sounded hurt.

"I want to die.." I looked back at the judge and lawyers and officers.

"Die when God tells you to. Don't rush it." Jory started crying.

"I already heard him."

"No you heard Satan!" Jory snapped. Nothing she can say will change my mind. I bet christian is in Texas living it up like Holmes said. They all are against me and it's my fault.

I'm the reason so many families cry every night because their loved ones are no longer here.

I'm the reason banks have to have triple security and cameras.

I'm the reason schools ask for IDs now.

I'm the reason a boy with a perfect reputation is now ruined for life.

I'm the reason...

I will no longer be the reason.
