The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock blaring Tik Tok by Kesha. I sleepily slammed my hand against my clock and sat up in my bed. I looked over to my beanbag chair, but Joey wasn't there. I jumped up, looking around the room, until I find him on the other side of my bed. My heart began to race as I stepped away from the bed. Joey began to wake up, sitting up in the bed.
"Morning Mandy," he said sleepily, his voice having that raspy, just woke up sound. He rubbed his eyes and looked over at me.
"Are you alright?"
"W-whu..."
I couldn't form words at all. I just pointed at him, my mouth open.
"Oh," he said quickly, jumping off my bed. "You were sleepwalking last night and woke me up. When you laid back down, you started screaming and kicking, so I hugged you to calm you down. And then I guess I just kind of fell asleep."
He scratched the back of his head as he grabbed the clothes I got him last night off my desk.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"Don't be. I didn't know I sleepwalked anyways."
He laughed quietly as he walked into my bathroom. I ran over to my closet and picked out an outfit. I pulled out my faded denim shorts and my faded Beatles t-shirt, pairing it with a hot pink tank and my hot pink Vans. I picked up my phone to see if I had any messages. Nope... But then suddenly, my phone went off. Shane...
"Hey babe."
"Good morning Shane."
"Do you want me to pick you up today? I'm getting to use my mom's truck."
"Um... No, I'm gonna drive to school," I said quickly, remembering that I have to drive Joey to school.
"Alright, well, I just thought I'd ask. Bye Mandy."
"Bye Shane," I whispered before hanging up my phone.
As soon as I hung up my phone, Joey came back into the room. The shirt that I had given him was a button up shirt, but he had all of the buttons buttoned all the way to the top and the shirt tucked into his pants. I laughed at him quietly.
"Do you have any hair gel?"
Then, I busted out into laughter.
"What's so funny?"
I walked over to him, shaking my head.
"This is not how you wear this outfit."
I then proceeded to fix his outfit by untucking his shirt and unbuttoning the top two buttons of the shirt.
"There, that looks better."
"I don't want to wear it like this."
"It looks a lot better than what you usually wear."
"Really?" he asked quietly.
"Yes really."
"Well, I at least want to fix my hair."
"No. Because I don't own any hair gel and neither does anyone else in this house."
"My hair looks terrible. I hate it."
"I think it looks cute."
His hair was a bit messy, falling over his forehead. It was actually very cute. I don't understand why he didn't want to wear it like that. He shrugged his shoulders and walked over to pick up his backpack and sat in the chair on front of my desk.
"You can go downstairs and get a pop tart or something, if you wanna. I'm just gonna change and do my hair."
"Okay," he said with a smile as he walked out of the room. I changed into my outfit quickly and walked into my bathroom. I decided to put my hair in curls today. After about 15 minutes, I finished my hair, grabbed my bag, and ran downstairs. I found Joey at the table in the kitchen, the sunlight hitting his face from the window. I could see the bruise on his cheek more clearly, the one on his eye faded.
