After school ended, I walked to the office to see if I could find Joey.
"Excuse Ms. Parker?"
"Yes?"
"Is Joey Graceffa here?" I said hopefully as she walked to the back. She walked back, the same straight face as before.
"He's in the nurse's office."
Oh my god. Why?
"Thank you."
I ran as fast as I could down the hallway, knocking rapidly on the door as I walked in.
"Deanna? Deanna??"
I heard shuffling as I looked over at a cot and saw Joey, who was unconscious. I grabbed his hand. He was cold... Tears filled my eyes as I heard more shuffling. Deanna, the school nurse, came walking through the door, gasping when he saw me.
"Mandy! You scared me."
I tried to hold back my tears as I talked.
"W-what happened to him? He's n-not moving and he's c-cold."
"He's unconscious. He'll be fine," she said as she pulled some medicine out of the cabinet. "He fell coming out of the office and hit his head. His head will probably be in a lot of pain when he wakes up."
She handed me some Tylenol and water.
"He'll want this when he wakes up."
She walked out of the room, leaving Joey and I by ourselves. I laid my jacket over his arms and he instantly became warmer. I smiled as he moved around a little. After about 10 more minutes, he began to wake up. He opened his eyes, shutting them again quickly and smiling.
"Mandy," he whispered.
I smiled back at him and grabbed his hand as he sat himself up. His hands instantly went to his head and he winced.
"Fuck," he swore, mumbling something after it.
"Here," I said quietly, handing him the medicine and water. "Take this."
I waited till after he took the medicine to begin questioning him.
"So... What happened?"
He sighed.
"Benn got suspended. I got a first offense."
"Only a first offense?"
"I guess they cut me some slack because of my academics."
"That's great!"
I hugged him tightly, noticing that my jacket was still on his shoulders. I laughed as we both pulled back and he pulled my jacket off. He handed to me and laughed breathily.
"Um?"
"You were cold so I put my jacket over you to keep you warm."
"Shouldn't that be the other way around?"
"I guess not."
Joey tried to pull himself off of the cot, tumbling over his feet. I laughed quietly at him failed attempts. He looked at me with puppy dog eyes, pouting his lip a bit.
"A little help?"
I helped him walk about halfway to my car until he caught his balance. I started the car, waiting for it to warm up to start driving. Joey grabbed my hand and smiled. But his smile faded as he looked into my eyes.
"What I did today was so stupid, wasn't it?"
"No. No, of course it wasn't!"
"I just... I just lost it. No one fucks with my family, and you sure as hell don't fuck with me."
I smiled at his use of 'family'.
"Joey, what you did today was amazing, okay?"
He ran his thumb over my hand. I looked at how our hands fit and I decided that now was probably the best time to find out what I've been wondering...
"Joey?"
"Yeah babe?"
"Why... Why do you like me?"
He sighed, letting out a small chuckle.
"I wouldn't call it JUST 'liking you'."
"Oh..."
"I'm in love with you. I have been since you moved here in fifth grade. I remember how you used to wear your hair in pigtails, how you used to wear plaid skirts every single day. My favorite was probably your glasses though. I always thought you were prettier with your glasses. As we got older, those feelings for you didn't disappear. You grew more and more popular, leaving me farther and farther down the social chain, but I still loved you."
I chuckled lightly, remembering how I was in elementary.
"I remember that girl. I remember every single bit of her. That's why I defended you, you know? Because I remembered what it was like to be a... Well, a nerd. I knew how hard it was. That's why I never wanted Shane to hurt you."
"Look at us now."
We both laughed.
"Yeah... Look at how fucked up we are now. Our little dysfunctional family."
He pulled my hand up to his lips and placed a light kiss on the top.
"Let's go home."
The entire ride back to Joey's, he held my hand. He was just so sweet. As we pulled into the driveway, I noticed a familiar looking car, but couldn't place it.
"Hey, who's car is that?" I asked as I stepped out of my car, closing the door and locking it.
"That's my roommate's. He must be back."
We walked to the door, Joey fumbling through his pockets for his keys. He winced every time the scars on his knuckles grazed the lining of his pocket. Eventually, he got out the keys and stepped inside. We both dropped our bags and keys by the door as we stepped in.
"Sawyer?! Are you home?!" Joey yelled out.
"Who's Sawyer?"
"Um, he's my roommate. Sawyer, dammit are you-"
Joey's sentence was cut off as we walked into the living room. There sat someone I had never seen before, holding a little Pomeranian. The person looked at Joey and smiled. His smile quickly faded as he jumped up to come and greet us. He examined his face the closer he got.
"Joey, what the fuck happened to you?"
"I'll tell you later because you have the most adorable little puppy in your hand!!" Joey squeaked. "Can I hold him?"
"Of course! He's your dog too!"
Joey took the dog from this person, who was obviously not going to acknowledge my existence. To my surprise, he just started talking to me.
"He's nice isn't he?"
"Yeah..."
He turned and looked at me. He finally got the look on his face when you know someone you see.
"I'm sorry, my bad. I'm Sawyer Hartman. I'm Joey's roommate."
He held out his hand, waiting for me to shake it. I took his offer, shaking his hand.
"I'm Mandy Knight."
He kept a tight grip on my hand as he turned to Joey.
"THIS is her?" he asked him, pointing to me. Joey's cheeks got red and he nodded as he continued to play with the puppy. Sawyer pulled me into a hug and laughed.
"You're the only girl Joey's every brought home that he was actually dating! You're practically family!"
I laughed quietly and stopped stressing. Sawyer, Joey's best friend and roommate, approved of me, so everything was going good. We both walked over and sat on opposites sides of Joey.
"What should we name him?!" Joey asked excitedly.
"I was thinking Dexter," Sawyer suggested.
"What about Alex?"
I played with the puppy a bit while he was still in Joey's hands and thought of a name.
"How about Hitch?"
"Hitch?"
"Yeah, it seems fitting. And when you introduce him, you can be like 'its Hitch bitch'."
Sawyer and Joey laughed.
"Hitch it is!" Joey said as he cuddled close to Hitch. He jumped up, handing Hitch to me and scooting Sawyer closer to me.
"Put Hitch in between you two and kiss him! It'll be the cutest Instagram picture!!"
I picked Hitch up and held him up to my face. Sawyer held the other side of him to keep him stable. He both kissed Hitch on the sides of his face as Joey took the picture. I heard the shutter of his camera and let my shoulders relax. He typed something an then sat down. Mine and Sawyer's phones both went off. I pulled mine out, knowing that it was a Instagram notification.

"My roommate and my girlfriend with our new puppy! @mandy_knight13 @Sawyer_Hartman #itsHitchBitch'

I smiled as I liked the picture and followed Sawyer. He instantly followed back, smiling at me. We all sat on the couch, just letting Hitch run across our laps for a bit. Suddenly, my phone started going off. It was my brother. I jumped up, walking to the center of the room and answered my phone.
"What the fuck do you want?"
I heard him sniffled as I looked over at Joey. He was examining y every move.
"I need you to come back sis. Please."
"I can't. Neither one of them have apologized. And besides, I'm happy where I am."
He sniffled once more.
"Kyle, are you crying?"
"Yes," he whispered. "Things have been worse since you left. I just need you back home."
"I can't come back until they resolve it," I said, running my hand through my hair.
"Fine. I don't even know why I tried. Bye."
He hung up before I could even say anything. I felt Joey's arms wrap around me. I gasped as he closed his arms around me, placing his head on my shoulder.
"Everything alright?"
"It was just my brother."
"You wanna talk about it?"
I turned to him, his arms still around me.
"Absolutely not," I said as I kissed him lightly on the lips. We both turned to find Sawyer standing next to us, holding Hitch.
"Um, this is probably totally off topic, but I have a favor I need from you guys. Only if you want to though."
"No, of course we'd love to," Joey answered.
"Well, I make these videos for YouTube," he explained, obviously talking to me, "and I'd love, love, love for you guys to help me out with my newest video."
"That sounds amazing."
"Here, follow me," Sawyer said, pulling on my hand. I pulled on Joey's causing a chain reaction as we trailed up the stairs. Joey got ahead of me, walking into the room Sawyer brought us into. As soon as I walked in, my jaw dropped. There were three computers along the back walls, papers and posters all over the walls, and papers scattered everywhere. I spun around slowly, taking in the magnificent view. To a normal person, it would've looked like a mess, but to me it was a beautiful wonderland. I was in absolute awe. I finally turned back to Joey and Sawyer, both of which were chuckling at me.
"Ho-ly shit Sawyer. This is... Amazing."
I walked over and sat beside Joey, still looking around the room.
"Thanks. I've worked hard on it."
He handed Joey and I both a stack of papers, smiling.
"Read it and tell me what you think."
It took a while to read it, but I read the whole thing. The main character beats the shit out of her boyfriend because he cheats on her with her best friend. Cliché, right? Well, then she kills the best friend and herself so no one ever finds out what happened... And then it'll end with the main character sitting in a dark place and you'll hear a deep voice in the shadows and then it ends.
"Damn," I whispered. "It's violent and dark."
"I knew you wanted to kill me, but I didn't know you'd take it that far."
Sawyer laughed lightly.
"It's not like most of my videos, so I'm taking a huge leap here. It's different and contradictory, but I think you guys would be perfect for it."
"I'm definitely in," I said with a chuckle.
"Same here," Joey added.
"Great! Now I just need to cast the role of the best friend."
"I know someone," I said, instantly thinking of Tammy.
"Oh?"
"My best friend, Tammy."
"The one who lives just across the street?"
"Yeah, that's the one. We're in a bit of a fight, but I bet she'll do it for an old friend."
"Go talk to her. We'll be here."
I jumped up, still holding the script in my hand. I stopped in the doorway, turning to look back at Sawyer and Joey.
"Try not to kill each other."
"No promises!" Sawyer yelled as I ran down the stairs. I slipped my flip-flops on, running over quickly to Tammy's. my heart was pounding as I approached the door. I stood on my tip-toes, contemplating what I would say. Finally, I knocked on the door, breathing deeply.
"I'm coming!" I heard a voice tell from the other side.
The doorknob wiggled, and the huge wood door opened slowly.
"Hey Tammy..."
