Their Rivalry - Jean X Reader

"Hey, Jean! Why the long face? Oh wait, you can't help it, because you look like a horse all the time." Eren sniggered, and you rolled your eyes, frustrated at the almost-rivalry going on between Eren and your boyfriend. Once, it had been a little entertaining to watch, but their constant bickering had quickly grown tedious and tiring. You were sick of it, quite frankly, and wished they would stop the arguing. You hated hearing people argue, and you'd often been known to leave the room if people started doing it. This had happened on several occasions when Jean and Eren had starting raising their voices and you had hurriedly decided to exit the room before it got any worse.

"Shut up, Jaeger!" Jean snapped, apparently unable to come up with a decent come-back. He slid his arm around your shoulders, muttering angrily, "Someday I'm going to get that Titan boy."

"How?" you laughed, grinning at him.

"I don't know...maybe if I mess up his cleaning next time we're on cleaning duty, and Captain Levi sees it afterwards..."

"Then Eren will tell him you did it, and you'll deny it, and it'll end up with an argument between you two which Levi will not be happy about," you finished for him. "Who knows, maybe then you'll both get extra cleaning duty."

"Whatever," Jean grumbled. "I'll think of something."

"Sure you will, Jean, sure." You glanced up at the dimming sky. "Hey, you think it's dinner yet? I'm hungry..."

Jean rolled his eyes. "Of course you are - you're nearly as bad as Sasha when it comes to food. You're lucky you're too cute for your own good, else I might have gotten fed up of you."

"Nah," you giggled. "You'd never get fed up of me."

You both headed to the hall, and as you sat down next to Sasha with Jean on your other side, you hoped that neither Jean or Eren would pick a fight with the other - despite the entertainment, you'd had enough of it for one day - for one week, in fact. Alas, it was wishful thinking. Only five minutes later and Eren and Jean were stood up facing each other, fists clenched as if they were all ready to get into a physical fight while they argued about who knew what. Uncharacteristically, you weren't really feeling hungry any more, and you pushed the remains of your food towards Sasha and got up from the table. "I'm going out," you whispered to Jean as you passed. "I've had enough of watching you guys bicker and fight. When will you guys just grow up?" With that, you left the hall, heading straight outside and walking until you came to your favourite spot to sit outside. It was underneath a small tree, with large enough gaps between the branches that you could view the twinkling stars through the leaves. It relaxed you, to lie underneath the tree and stare at the stars, and you closed you eyes in contentment at being away from the arguing.

You were beginning to doze off after a while, thoughts of the happy times you spent with Jean running through your head, and you found yourself wishing he could just be pleasant to Eren. If he was, maybe Eren wouldn't act like such a brat towards him. Just last week they'd been caught bickering by Captain Levi, when they were supposed to be cleaning. He'd made them run laps, and Jean had come whining to you afterwards. You'd comforted him like the good girlfriend you were, but you knew that it was half his fault as well as Eren's, and he couldn't just blame Eren for everything.

You were startled out of your peaceful state of almost-asleep by footsteps, and a cough meant to get your attention. You slowly opened your eyes to be faced with Jean, who was leaning over you and staring down at you. His face appeared to be upside-down from the angle you were looking at him, and you cracked a smile when he gave you a lopsided grin. "What are you doing out here?" he asked, throwing himself down on the grass beside you and leaning back against the tree trunk. He ran his fingers through your (h/c) locks, as he often liked to do.

"Relaxing," you replied. "Getting away from you and Eren. God, Jean, you two can barely be in the same room as each other. What the hell is your problem?"

"My problem?" Jean asked indignantly. "He's the one with a problem, not me."

"And there you are acting all childish again," you sighed. "'He did it, not me,'" you mocked him. "Look, if you're going to start arguing with me then I'm going to go my room and lock the door."

Jean sighed. "I'm sorry, (F/N)," he apologised. You pushed yourself up into a sitting position and leaned your head against his shoulder. "I don't know what it is," he grumbled. "I guess we just have an aversion to each other. We don't get on. We both know what pisses off the other."

"Do you want me to talk to Eren?" I asked. "Get him to stop bothering you on the basis that you leave him alone?"

"Nah," Jean said. "That would just make me seem cowardly, too afraid to face him myself."

"Are you going to face him yourself?"

"What, and ask him nicely to please stop annoying me? Fat chance of that happening. He'd just mock me for that as well."

"Actually, you're the one who does the majority of the mocking," you pointed out. "It's also usually you who starts it."

He sighed again. "The only reason I'm letting you away with defending Jaeger," he said. "Is because you're my girlfriend and I love you. I swear, if you were anyone else I might just find you intolerable."

You chuckled. "Yeah, who knows, maybe I'd be dating Eren if you and I hadn't gotten together."

Jean frowned. "Just the mention of the possibility of that ever happening makes me feel sick," he growled, pecking your lips and wrapping his arms protectively around you. "You're mine, (F/N), all mine. I don't like to share."

"Ew!" you squealed with a laugh. "It would be weird to share your girlfriend!"

"Which is why you're mine," he said. "I have no intention of letting you date anyone else."

"And I have no intention of dating anyone but you," you said, tracing your finger around the edge of his bottom lip before pulling him in for another kiss.
