Sketchbook - Eren X Reader

Your tongue was stuck out in concentration as you turned the pencil over in your hand several times before putting the point back to the paper. The portrait you were drawing ever so carefully was the one you'd spent the longest on so far, and the one you were determined not to get wrong. You had attempted it several times before, only to mess up part of the way through. One single mistake would ruin it, and you didn't want that, so you concentrated extra hard.

A loud knock on your door made you jump, and your pencil skidded across the page, leaving a long line across the drawing that was too dark to rub out properly. Annoyed, you ripped out the page from your sketchbook, you crumpled it into a ball and hurled it at the door. Closing the book and gritting your teeth in annoyance, you slowly said, "Come in," to whoever had knocked at your door.

The door opened, and Eren peeked around it. He grinned when he saw the sketchbook in your hands. "Drawing again, (F/N)?" he asked. "I swear, it's like you're glued to that sketchpad."

You shrugged nonchalantly, pretending you weren't annoyed at him for startling you. "I like drawing," you replied simply. "I enjoy it. It's a hobby. There's nothing wrong with that."

"Yeah, I know," Eren said. "Anyway, I came to tell you the Captain's changed the training schedule slightly, so we're going out to train right now. You better hurry up."

"Oh! Okay." You hurriedly reached for your Scout Regiment jacket, pulling it on and tucking your sketchbook underneath your arm.

Eren glanced down and spotted the ball of crumpled paper you'd thrown at the door. He bent down to pick it up, asking you, "What's this?"

You lunged for it, snatching it out of his hands before he could open it and see what you had been attempting to draw. "Uh, nothing!" you said quickly, tosing it into the bin as you nudged Eren out of the room, following him and closing the door behind you. "Just a failed drawing."

"Can't I see it?" Eren asked, peering around you at the closed door curiously. "Come on, (F/N), I've seen some of your drawings and they're all really good. I find it hard to believe that one was any different."

"I was drawing a person," you said, striding past him and heading outside. He hurried to catch up with you. "People are harder to draw accurately."

Eren raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Who were you trying to draw?" He grinned. "I bet it was Jean, wasn't it? You wanted a picture of him to snuggle with at night. Aw, that's sweet, (F/N)."

"No!" you cried. "Why would I want to draw Jean? He's an idiot."

"But you don't deny that you wanted a picture of someone to snuggle with?" Eren laughed.

"No, that's not why I was drawing him!" You hit his arm, feeling your face grow red.

"Him? Is it someone you like?" Eren was still smiling, but the playfulness had disappeared from his eyes.

"Shut up and stop asking questions," you answered. "I'm not telling you."

You arrived at the training area, where Captain Levi was standing with his arms crossed, looking bored as usual. You rolled your eyes, joining the others. Sasha grinned at you, and you smiled half-heartedly back at her.

"Cadets Jaeger and (L/N). What took you so long?" Levi demanded. His eyes narrowed when he saw the sketchbook you still carried under your arm. "(L/N), why have you brought that book with you?" He held out his hand. "Give it here. You don't need it now."
