Mermaids Have it All

Chapter 2

   After a week I still have boxes around my room. School started tomorrow and I sure wasn't ready.
   "Jenna, take Jack to the book store or ice cream or something! He needs to do something other than looking at a TV screen!" Mom tells me as I enter the kitchen. "What?!" I exclaim. I hated to take my brother to places when it was jut the two of us! He would hurt me then force me not to say a word.
"Jenna!" Mom says. Both Jack and I moan. "Whhhhyyyy!! I don't want him!" I whine. "Go! And here is some money," mom says giving me $15. "Get yourself something..." I whine then put on my flip-flops which were next to the door. "Come on..." I say obviously not happy. Jack smiles evilly following me out the door. Once we are both outside and the door is closed Jack says," I love to torture you..." He then runs away from my reach. I dash after him. We stay running on the cement but we were still surrounded by people and mini shops.
A group of people get in front of me and I couldn't see Jack anymore! "Excuse me!" I said repeatedly trying to get around them. I don't get around them 'till the tenth person went past me. I run forward trying to find my brother. I couldn't find him 'till I heard a familiar voice. I look to my right and see Jack talking to a man who sold ice cream. He gave Jack a chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. "Jack!" I whine standing next to him. "That will be $3" the ice cream man said. I just stared at Jack. He licked his ice cream then said," Yum..." I growl then get the money from my short pocket. I hand $5 to the ice cream man then get some money back. "Sorry..." I apologize grabbing Jack's other hand. "You, jerk!" I say looking at Jack he just laughs. "Hey! You get a new video game if I get a new book! Deal?" I say pointing to a video game shop.
Jack's eyes lit up. "Deal!" He says running into the shop. I roll my eyes and feel someone bump into me. "Sorry.." She apologizes. I realize this was a girl that looks to be around 14 like me! She had red hair that was in a pony tail and went a little below her shoulders. Her eyes were a beautiful sea green color. She was gorgeous with a few dimples on her face. She was only a little shorter than me yet she had good posture. She had a friendly smile and looked like the daughter of the sea. She wore a lime green bikini with pink poka-dots. She was also barefooted.
"It's fine! Um..hey! You look pretty!" I compliment her. She giggled and responds," Well, nice to meet you! I'm Ari...What's your name older sista?" She asks in a high pitched bubbly voice. "Jenna," I say starting to smile. "What school will you go to?" She asks me. "Um...I think my mother said it was something like-...Laura's Ocean Academy...I don't know..." I say. She giggles again," I think you mean, Laura's Sea School! I know..not the best name..I go there too-...or will tomorrow!" She tells me. I nod," Well, Ari, I hope we met again! But I have to go..." I tell her remembering Jack. "See ya later!" She winks walking towards the beach.
Entering the video game store I see Jack standing in line. "What took so long?" He asks me. He had a game in his hand. I couldn't see much other than fire and skulls. It looked pretty awesome if you were a boy or tomboy.
"I met someone...What are you getting?" I ask. "Fire Destroyer 7!" He says like 'the best game ever!' "How much?" I ask. He turns the game over and looks at the price on the back. "$5!" He says stepping forward in line. It was now our turn. I give the man the money and we quickly head out. "Now I'm going to the book store! You can look around too if you want! Or you can just wait inside-" I say before interrupted," Look around at your girly books? No way! I don't want to puke from your romance novels-" "shut up!"
We quietly walk a little bit to the book store. It looked pretty empty, which made since. Every store would soon close since it is at sunset now.
Quickly I look around in the dark store. I would sometimes catch Jack looking at a shelf. There was an old lady at the counter. She was mysterious and watched me every time I picked up a book to look at. At the back I see a book that seemed to be glowing. It was opened to a page. The book seem to call me too it. When I was about to touch it the lady appears out of no where and shuts the book! I wince screaming a little. "THIS ISN'T FOR SALE!" The woman yells pointing her wrinkly fingers at me. "Why not? I want it!" I say. The woman looks at me for a few seconds before answering," little one, I warn you...find another book.." She says. I sigh and walk away from that lady. I walk to another shelf. She disappears and is back behind the counter. Jack walks to me," Can we go soon?" He asks impatiently. "Go on head home!" I say. Jack smiles and dashes out the door. "Make a choice...the store closes in five minuets," the lady says. I look towards the weird book. The lady drops something and bends down to pick it up. As quick as I can I run to the magical book and steal it.
Running out the door as fast as I can my heart beats fast and I push myself to go even when my muscles hurt.
Did I really just steal?
