Chapter Eight: Aaron's last day

Sam's Pov

I woke up the next morning with a sore back. I yawned and stretched and then realized the painful feeling that I had slept outside. Aaron must have already woken up and gone back inside but Amanda still lay adorably sound asleep. She looked freezing and I felt really bad. I ran into the house to see who could help me. “Hey guys! Um… Amanda is asleep on the grass and I can’t lift her but I think she should come inside, can anyone go carry her in?” I asked. They all snickered from their coffee cups. “Come on! Please!” I pleaded. “She's going to freeze and have a sore back!”

“Why did you all sleep outside anyway?” Anne asked from where she and Daniel were snuggling under a giant blanket.

“Well… I don’t know! Just come help Amanda!”

Eddie chuckled but stood up and followed me outside. “Awe! She’s so cute….” Eddie whispered as we stood over the tiny girl. She really was. “Hmmm? Redmayne? Anything to share about your cosette?”

“Issy? Yeah she’s cool!” he smirked.

“Right! Issy…. No! god! I think you like Amanda!”

“No I don’t. She is my best friend though. Here come on! Let’s just get her inside!” I stooped down and gently picked her up bridal style and carried her inside. I grabbed the blanket and followed them in. Eddie laid Amanda on her bed and when I went into the room later I saw them sleeping soundly all curled up together.

“Awe! Anne! Come look at them!” I called. She came dashing in with Issy by her side. “They must be in love.” Issy said promptly. Annie and I burst out laughing as we watched them snore in unison. After the cuteness wore off I grabbed my lace white dress off a hanger and pulled it on along with a long grey sweater. I walked out into the living room to find it was only Aaron. “Did you scare them off?” I asked, sitting down next to him on the couch. Aaron glared at me, “Ha! Ha! No! They love me! I don’t know where they are. Probably around somewhere. Big house…”

“Sure is…. Ha-ha! Amanda’s taxidermy!” I pointed to some stuffed animals. Aaron’s eyes grew wide and he shivered. I laughed at him and pulled out my phone. “What do you say you and I spend the day together? I got nothing better to do, and I am going to miss you too much!” I smiled sadly and nodded. Aaron grinned and grabbed my hand and leading me to tell the others. We walked into Amanda’s other living room to see Anne and Hugh and Russell all in their reading magazines and books. “Well, well, well? Truth comes out?” Russell asked, looking at us. We stared at him blankly till we realized we were holding hands. Rather than letting go Aaron squeezed my hand tighter. “Sammy and I are going out! We will see you around lunch time!” Anne gasped and nodded.

“Have fun you two!” Hugh called after us as we dashed back into Amanda’s room to get her keys. We barged through the door to see Eddie and Amanda were up and talking quietly. “Hey guys!” Eddie said looking up. He had his arm around Amanda’s shoulder and was talking softly into her ear. Amanda turned and smiled at us. “We were just wondering if we can borrow your car?” Aaron asked slowly, taking in the situation. Amanda nodded, “Sure, my keys are on the dresser!” Aaron fetched them and we quickly walked out. “That was weird! Serous conversation too…. Intrigue!” Aaron stopped in his tracks. “Oh come on you!” I pulled him out the front door and to the car.

We drove for a while until Aaron parked outside a line of shops. We got out and linked arms as we walked along the boulevard. We went into a thrift shop and tried on goofy hats, and then a coffee shop to get lattes. As we sat outside drinking them I saw Aaron crack his neck in pain. “Man! I don’t know if sleeping on the hard ground was a good idea….” I nodded in agreement.

“I know! I was sore too… but it sure was nice. Hey listen before Amanda came you were telling me something, you never finished. Want to tell me now?”

“Oh ha-ha…. It’s not important.”

“Oh ok….” I awkwardly looked down at my lap. “Hey Sammy? You ok?” he asked, trying to meet my gaze.

“I don’t want you to leave!” at my most embarrassing moment I started to cry. I saw Aaron put an arm around me and hold me there. “Shhh…. Sammy! It’s ok! We still have the rest of today together! It’s going to be alright!” he kissed my head five times and just held me in a hug.

The rest of the day went good. We went shopping and I got a new dress and helped Aaron pick out some jackets and shoes before he realized he had spent way over his budget. Soon we drove home to meet the others. Amanda and Eddie seemed really sad all day sad. Were they just sad cause of Aaron? Oh well…. I could ask Manda later. Issy and Daniel and I decided to make dinner. Soon Amanda wondered into the kitchen to join us. “Are you ok?” I asked. She nodded but I knew she was lying. “Ugh… let’s talk later?” I looked at her funny but nodded as we all went about chopping and grilling.

Finally around seven we had successfully constructed some sort of pasta dish. Hugh and Eddie eyed it carefully. “Is this safe to eat?” Eddie asked pocking his food. “Of course it is!” Amanda immediately replied. “But Sam made it through….” Aaron replied, earning a whack from me. “Hey that was one time I almost poisoned you! to be honest I am only really good at making brussle sprouts….” I said looking down.

 “Who wants pizza?” Russell finally asked the question everyone was thinking. “YES! Great idea! “Amanda hopped up to get the number for the nearest place. “Wait! But first a toast to our dearest friend! Aaron we all love you!” Anne raised her glass of wine and we all nodded. We toasted him and sat in silence. Amanda called and ordered food. “Hey they don’t deliver, I will go pick it up. Anyone want to come with?” Amanda asked. I hopped up. “Sure!”

I pushed her out the door so I could get her along for my interrogation. “Now tell me!”

“OK fine! Eddie…. We got in a fight.”

“Awe sweetie! About what?”

“Hannah.”

“What happened?”

 “Well ugh…. I don’t even know! He got mad at me because when I woke up Hannah was on the phone with him and she was mad at him because she thought he and I had something going on. Then when he hung up, he turned to me. He said it was my fault that she was mad at him…”

“Eddie? Why? That doesn’t seem like him. He is so sweet to everyone! He loves you!”

“I don’t know! He just pissed me off. Said I was so clingy to him. Now we are just made at each other…” we drove in silence.

“Amanda, your such a strong, brave, nice girl! He will come around and apologize!” she smiled as we got the pizza’s and drove home…

After dinner I walked outside with Amanda to throw the ball for Finn when we spotted Aaron and Eddie sitting on the porch swing chair talking about something in a whisper. “What's going on?” Amanda asked.
