Chapter Five:

Into Thin Air

Emsley was right. I saw him following me. Everywhere.

When Nick and I took Jordan to Tyren’s car, he was right behind us. His gaze never left me for more than a second.

I managed to ignore him for the few minutes that it took to patch up Jordan, but what Nick had said kept replaying in my head.

You can only see an angel if that angel is your soulmate.

Wasn’t Nick supposed to be my soulmate? After all, he was alpha, and I his mate. It wasn’t like Sabrina could be his mate, because they were cousins and that would result in some freaky marriage.

But, on the other hand, it didn’t help that I was having gooey, sappy, romance-y feelings for Emsley. Even though I had only known him for a grand total of five minutes.

“Are you okay?” Nick asked, after he pulled me aside.

Emsleywas hovering right above Nick with a smug look on his face when I answered, “Yeah, just a little scared about the whole Lucifer scenario,” I answered.

“That wasn’t Lucifer that was one of his minions,” Nick explained, “Lucifer 1) wouldn’t have spared us and 2) would’ve looked more like the mutant that we found yesterday.”

I looked into Nick’s sincere eyes, and nodded, “Okay,”

He took my hand and I tightened my grip on his.

I didn’t want to fall in love with Emsleyno matter how attractive and angelic he was. He’d probably just end up breaking my heart like all those teen romance fictions say.

As if he could read my thoughts (which he probably could), his seductive voice whispered in my ear, “Don’t give up on me, my little Iris flower.”

I didn't think that I could give up on him even if he wanted me to.

I was in a meadow, full of irises. The sun was just beginning to rise and I could taste the salt water that sounded on the beach just over the road.

I closed my eyes thankful for silence and an overflowing amount of calmness entered me.

I felt someone slash at my back, and bite into my neck.

I turned and saw Keo.

I didn't know how I knew it was her.

But, she was beautiful.

Her golden locks of silky hair were dangling around her flawless face, none hanging in her incredible candy cotton pink eyes.

"You bit me," I said, in a perplexed manner.

Keo let out an euphonious laugh.

"Emsley was right, you are incredibly diverting."

Keo looked into my eyes and took my hands.

"Who do you trust the most right now?"

"Nick," I answered immediately.

Tsk, Tsk, Keo shamed.

"What?" I asked, wanting to please her.

"Don't you see?" She asked, "If Lucifer's minion in the parking lot that day really wanted to kill you, Nick would've gone straight for his neck. Not grabbed him then stuck his mouth around Lucifer's minion's head. That's sloppy."

"So? That's just one thing?"

"Nick is always around, protecting you, besides school, isn't he?"

"Well, yeah, but--"

"He doesn't want to loose you because your the only connection he has. He's Lucifer's minion! If he lost you, then Lucifer would have to murder him!"

"But, why am I so important?" I inquired.

"Because, you'll be second-in-command in the battle against Lucifer," Keo smiled.

"Wha--"

"That's why Emsley has been set to protect you. He fell in love with you along the way, but what Nick said was true. You two are destined to be soulmates. Don't fight it, sweetheart,"

And with that, Keo was gone.

I woke up and found Emsley watching me from my window seat, which was covered in morning light.

Emsley's wings were a mint green today. The light made them sparkle and gave him a halo of light.

"Good morning, sleeping beauty," He smiled.

Then a blood-curdling scream erupted in Eli's room.

Right the, I knew Nick was the cause of the scream, and Eli was dead.

A/N I stayed up writing last night, and I decided to give you lovies a little bit more of the story. 1 vote, 2 comments and the next part of the story will be posted by Sunday at the latest. :)
