Chapter 7

Ainsley

I roll to my side and snuggle deeper in the fluffy comforter to get away from the light shining in through the window. Wait there are no windows near my bed in the guest house; they’re all down on the main floor. It comes all back to me; downtown, the kids, Jericho, my car, the attack.

Throwing the blankets off me, I go to run for the door when I roll onto a large warm body. I squeak when Nathan shoots up and steadies me. Somehow I have ended up straddling his body and I realize that he is only in a pair of boxes. As for me, I am wearing an oversized shirt and short shorts.

“This is an unusual way to wake up.” Nathan moans out as he trails his hands through his hair.

That was sexy, but I quickly shake my head and crying out, “What’s going on? Are the kids ok? Why am I in your bed? What the heck happened?”

“Calm down-” He shushes me, but I cut him off.

“Calm down! I’m in your bed with your shirt on; I was attacked by some guy who healed really fast after I stabbed him; I don’t know if the kids are ok; and my head hurts very badly!” I rush out and he covers my mouth with his hand to quiet down before I can say more.

Narrowing my eyes at him, he says, “First the kids are alright; they’re worried about you and a little scared, but overall fine. You were knocked out when I and the guys found you all and Jericho was long gone. I brought you to my room and had a doctor looked you over and had to stitch up a cut on your temple; other than that you have a few bruises. You are wearing my clothes, because yours were bloody and don’t worry, the doctor changed you and she is a female. Jonah was able to drive your car back, but you have to replace both doors and the driver window. Now I will remove my hand and you can calmly respond, ok?”

Nathan removes his hand and I take a deep breath before asking, “Why did Jericho heal before my eyes after I stabbed him?”

Nathan closes his eyes and groans out before he swiftly lifts me off of him and sets me back on the bed. He gets up and begins pacing back and forth; looking at his bare back I see a large tribal wolf tattoo on his right shoulder. He has a beautifully sculpted body; he puts Michelangelo’s David to shame.

“Ainsley, what I’m about to tell you may freak you out and you have every right to do so, but please don’t hate us.” Nathan draws me out of my thoughts and I’m silent so he continues, “Jericho, his gang, and my family a-are werewolves.”

He isn’t looking at me when he says it; he thinks I’m going to run. When I really think about it, it all makes since. They are always going into the woods, never taking a car to go to “work,” the dog hair or wolf hair everywhere, and how they seem to know what the other is thinking. I guess deep down, I knew.

“Please say something.” Nathan quietly asks.

Giving him a small smile, I reply, “It all makes sense; I guess I kind of knew the whole time and don’t worry, I don’t hate y’all.”

“But we brought you into our world and your human; I put you in danger and now you are paying for it.” Nathan says as he is pacing again.

“Nathan, I’m really not human.” I blurt out and he stops and looks at me with a questionable look so I go on, “I’m a witch; a high power witch.”

Nathan goes to say something, but closes his mouth so I get off the bed and snap my fingers. The bed goes from sheets and blankets everywhere to tightly made in a blink of an eye. Turning to Nathan, his mouth is gaped open as he looks at his bed.

After a few seconds, he says, “I never knew witches existed.”

“I never knew werewolves existed either. That why I’m not scared right now. I’m similar to you in a weird way and I’m sorry for not saying anything; people tend to freak out.” I answer and look down at my hands.
