Chapter 19
Ainsley
It’s been two weeks since I got in that taxicab and I haven’t stopped thinking about Nathan. Sitting on Daphne Street at a small café, I watch the world past me by. I love people watching, there is so much that can be seen when you look closely. Human beings are a fascinating creature and we really don’t appreciate one another. We take things for granted and when we see the error of our ways it’s too late.
Where I am sitting on the sidewalk, I have a perfect view of Cathedral Square and there is an elderly man playing the trumpet. There is a light breeze in the air and its perfect weather. During the nights, it has been mid-60s and during the day it’s been in the 70s. Molly’s wedding is in three days and everything is planned out so I can enjoy my city.
I smile at her reaction when I told her the reason why I came early. Since she knows about the bond between mates, she was pissed and wanted to travel there to kick Nathan's ass. Luckily Joseph stopped her and made her calm down.
Like other werewolves, he was tall and handsome. When it comes to Molly, he spoils her with love and I envy that; will I have that with Nathan?
Anyways, I have been staying at the Battle House Hotel which is the nicest hotel in all of Mobile. Joseph is paying for everyone who is attending the wedding to stay there and I would hate to see the bill. Like most Alphas, Joseph is rich and has a beautiful home in the rural part of Mobile County.
I’m brought back to reality when I hear the scraping of the chair across from me and I smile that the older man across from me. Jerome Cranford was the lawyer that represented me in the trail against the Anderson brothers. He is in his mid-sixties and he reminds me of Morgan Freeman with a slighty deeper voice.
“You look beautiful as ever Miss Ainsley; glad to see you back in town.” He greets me before a waiter comes and takes his order.
Sipping at my peach tea, I answer, “It’s good to be back. I’m happy that I can see Molly walk down the aisle.”
“I’m happy too. You both are overdue for your happy ending.” He says and I agree, but life isn’t like that.
The wait delivers his Oolong tea and I reply, “How’s your practice; put away any bad guys lately?”
“Never a dull moment that’s for sure; how’s Oregon?” He asks with a twinkle in his brown eyes.
He is the only man, I feel comfortable to flirt in a friendly way. When he heard about the trial, he was the first to come to my aid and he didn’t charge anything. Molly and I got really attached to him, because we stayed with him and his wife Sue during the trial. The Anderson brothers’ friends were threatening us and he protected us and only thing he asked in return was for us to be happy. There were a lot of bricks thrown through his front window.
“It’s lovely there; I work for a great family with great kids. Also I don’t have to use a can of hair spray to tame the wild beast on my head. How’s Sue; you both better be coming to the wedding.” I say and he smiles broadly.
“Yes we are; we wouldn’t miss it for the world. I expect to get invited to your wedding too someday.” He answers.
Changing the subject, I ask, “So what’s going on in the Azalea City?”
“I hate to tell you this, but I promised you from the first time we ever met that I will tell you the truth even when it was bad.” He says with warm eyes before he continues, “The parole for the Anderson brothers’ is coming up soon and if someone doesn’t speak against it, they could walk.”
