Chapter 24

Ainsley

All week has been amazing. We have gone through every tourist attraction in Mobile and now it’s Friday. Our plan is to drive down to Gulf Shores and stay in a condo until Sunday and leave from the private airport in Foley to go back home.

Packing up the cars, I go through the house one more time to make sure nothing was being left behind. After I was done, I walk back outside and everyone is getting to the cars while Nathan and Jonah finishes loading the suitcases.

When they were done, Nathan walks towards me and says, “Well we are already, I’m a little sad to leave this place.”

“Yeah me too, but I haven’t seen the gulf in years and if you think the food is good here, then you are in for a treat.” I answer with a smile.

I around of whoops and hollers come from the cars causing Nathan and I to laugh.

He locks the front door and I give one more look at the lovely house before getting into the passenger sit. Nathan slides behind the wheel and looks at Payton, Sophie, and Alexander in the backseat who are practically bouncing out of their skin with excitement. Jonah is driving the Ford Explore and with Donnie, Asher, Ashton, Shawn, and Emma who is not happy to be riding with a car full of boys.

“Let’s get going.” Nathan says and the kids scream with joy.

We are listening to music with the top down and I enjoy the wind flowing through my hair. It’s gotten warmer and it’s prefect beach weather; not to cold or hot. I’m wearing some cut of shorts and a sleeveless pale blue blouse while Nathan is dressed in khaki shorts and a red t-shirt. Pretty much everyone is in shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops however since going to the battleship, Asher refuses to wear them and is wearing sneakers.

“Wow there’s a lot of traffic.” Nathan comments as we get into Spanish Fort.

“I heard somewhere that the Strawberry Festival is going on.” Alexander says from the back.

Mentally slapping myself, I say, “That’s right, it’s happening in Loxley. We’ll have to take the back roads.”

“Will it be quicker?” Nathan asks with a smile.

“It’s a little longer, but with this traffic it’s a lot better. Now get off the next exit that says Malbis and turn right.” I answer and he does as I say.

Nathan phone goes off and he hands it to me to answer.

“Where are we going?” Donnie asks through the phone.

Smiling, I reply, “A short cut since there is a festival going on in one of the towns we have to drive through. Don’t worry; we’ll be at the beach in no time.”

After I hang up, we continue to sing along to the radio and I would tell Nathan which way to go. The kids got a kick at seeing the fields of crops and cows which was there first time seeing one. Alexander asked if I ever went cow tipping and if it actually works; which it does actually work, but I don’t add in the part when you get chased off by an old guy with a sawed off shot gun. Payton loved when we drove through Magnolia Springs and saw a boat riding down the river delivering mail. Sophie was off in her own little word and sang to the radio off key; it was adorable.
