Chapter 18
Ainsley
We get back to the pack warehouse and the kids immediately run to me. I smile at them warmly, because I don’t want them to see how emotional I am right now.
“Why don’t we go back to the house and make something to eat?” I ask and they happily agree.
Walking back to the house, I wonder how long the pack will run for, but my question is answered when I see Jonah, Donnie, and the twins walking around in the kitchen. Once I’m inside, I begin making a turkey and bacon Panini for everyone and I make extra just in case they are hungry later.
Well the kids eat in the den, Jonah quietly asks, “So where are you and Nathan at right now?”
“We both have things we need to figure out so I’m going to leave tonight for Mobile. It’s only a few days extra, but I think it’s for the best.” I answer and Jonah nods his head.
“What do you mean your living tonight?” Alexander asks as he is on the sectional facing me.
Sighing, I walk into the den and sit between Alexander and Payton while everyone else is scattered around.
“As you may know that Nathan and I are mates and there are some issues that we have to work out. I think it would be best if I head down to Mobile sooner; we both need time apart. Just know that I love you all and I hate leaving like this.” I say honestly.
Payton mumbles, “Are you leaving for good?”
“Of course not; we just need to figure out some things and I probably need this more than him. I promise I will call every night before y’all go to bed and I will bring back a gift for everyone.” I reply, trying to lift their spirits.
“What time does your flight leave?” Donnie asks quietly.
I look around at everyone before answering, “Midnight. A cab will pick me up around 10:30 so I can check in. I should arrive in Mobile around 7 in the morning.”
He nods and I feel like bitch for leaving, but I have to do this. It’s only 7:30 and I ask the kids if they wanted to play a game before I leave which made them happier. We played until it was time for the younger kids to go to bed. Sophie was fast asleep when I tucked her in and my heart crumbled at the thought of leaving.
Saying good night and goodbye to Emma, Alexander, and Payton was difficult since they wanted to see me off, but they had school in the morning. Without them knowing, I used a spell that made them extremely sleepy and they were out.
By the time it’s ten o’clock, I go back to my room to make sure I have everything packed. Doing a quick survey of my room, I see the book that Nathan gave me and I quickly set it on top of my clothes in my suitcase. In total I have two suitcases and a small duffle bag plus my purse.
I sent a text to Molly telling her that I was coming early and ask if she could pick me up at the airport. Thankfully she texted back with a yes and I had to promise to tell her everything once there; sometimes I wonder if she has any psychic ability.
Bringing my luggage into the kitchen, I find the guys, minus Nathan, talking around the island. They all grow silent and I feel uncomfortable for the first time in the house.
“Hey guys, I just wanted to s-” I began, but Jonah interrupts me.
“We don’t blame you for living early. Nathan should have told you long ago and I have to admit that I knew something about you both beings mates. I am sorry Ainsley, really I am. “Jonah says with remorse in his tone.
