Chapter 8

Ainsley

Going back into the house, I see many different dishes laid out on the island and my mouth waters at the sight. It’s around noon and I realize that it’s the next day. Jonah suggests that we eat on paper plates and eat in the den while we talk about what happen. Looking at the kids I can see guilt eating them up and I don’t want them blaming themselves.

Getting our plates filled and something to drink, we all settle on the cozy sectional and grub down on the food. It’s always nice to eat something you didn’t have to cook. While we eat, everyone makes small talk, but I notice how Shawn was really quite. I can feel the remorse coming off of him and when he gets to go into the kitchen, I follow.

“Hey Shawn, are you ok?” I ask and he stiffens.

Not meeting my glaze, he replies, “Yeah, I’m fine.”

“Shawn you can’t lie to me; what’s on your mind?” I ask again softly.

Sighing, he finally looks at me and says, “I froze up when Jericho was attacking you. I was scared and I didn’t do anything. It’s my fault that he hurt you.”

“Honey, it is not your fault. Jericho is clearly unstable and what he did is on him, not you. Come on there is some I have to tell everyone.” I answer and we walk back into the den.

By now everyone is done eating so I begin, “I think we should talk about what happen yesterday. Nathan has already explained to me what you all are and what you can do.”

“So you know we are werewolves.” Jonah asks and I nod my head.

“Don’t worry I don’t think any less of you and I’m really not that surprised, but what I really want to say is that I’m really not what you think I am.” I pause and no one stops me so I continue, “You see I’m a witch. There isn’t many left and we really don’t like broadcasting to others. We really don’t want another witch hunt happening.”

Everyone is quiet for a few moments and I fiddle with my hands as I wait for someone to say something.

“So you can cast spells and turn people into frogs?” Ask Payton and I had to laugh at that.

Smiling, I reply, “Sorry, I can’t turn people into frogs, but I can cast spells.”

“What else can you do?” Ashton speaks up and I give them the basic run down that I gave Nathan.

After I am done explaining I add, “Shawn when you told me that you froze well that was because of me. I casted a spell that would protect you all from harm; with that they couldn’t hurt you or you couldn’t get involve. You didn’t freeze up; not because you were scared, but because you couldn’t physically do it.”

“Wait if you can like control stuff and junk; why do you force us to do chores?” Asher pipes in and I cock my brow to him.
