Chapter 13: Lonely Nights

"Jerusalem artichoke, onion and garlic spiced chicken casserole, potato sauteed in butter and thyme with shimmered carrots and a bottles cheap wine to compliment and we'll have to call that dinner."

The grin on Niall's face was a catalyst for the grin on mine, or maybe the food was but either way I was smiling and it was all thanks to Niall.

I hadn't eaten any real food all day and the aroma that lingered in the air was enough for me to fall on my knees and beg for food. Not just any food, Niall's food.

"And don't you worry about the potatoes, yours aren't sautéed in butter or anything."

And I was more than grateful for the Irish being who was wearing a small red apron and eating what didn't look like leftovers from the pan. First of all he started by taking a few spoons but when he continued, it got me thinking.

"If you keep eating like that there wouldn't be any food left," I whined.

He scoffed. "If you maybe get your idle arse of my stool, dinner would be faster."

Niall was a bad ass chef and he knew that any sort of help wasn't needed, especially not by me, if not, we'll both be scrapping every last bit of food from the pan and dinner would be non existent. Neither of us will appreciate that.

"You don't need assistance, Ni, besides, I worked my ass off all day, it has the right to remain idle for as long as I permit."

He abandons his greediness and turned to face me. "Speaking of work, how'd the interview go?" Curiousity was clear in his baby blue eyes, for some reason he was suddenly interested in my job.

A sudden wave of nausea hit me as i remembered the irritable activities i had to put up with today, all the name of getting something that didn't belong to me. "Could have been better but it wasn't, at all."

Niall smiled mischievously. "Tell me the worst that happened"

The starting point to the starting point to the finishing wasn't at all pleasant but I still manage to give Niall full detail on every thing that happened and did not happen, without throwing up.

Niall's reaction was exactly what I expected; he burst out into uncontrollable laughter and I frowned. On a normal day, I would have laughed over it with him but due to the fact that I experienced it, the disgust that still lingered in me wouldn't permit to even smile.

"Niall it isn't funny,"

He says in between his laughter. "Actually, darling, it is." He managed to pause for a full minute, trying to regain his breath. "Somehow, Alia and I coincidentally bet on that, fuck, I owe the bitch thirty bucks."

I sighed as i watched Niall continue dying of laughter. I might have expected this from my so called friends. They take the most important things and turn it into some kind of laughing stock or even gamble with it. And I am more than certain that it was Alia's idea.

"In all seriousness though," He paused putting on a straight face. "Can I borrow thirty?"

I felt like pulling out all the hair on both our heads as he roared into another fit of laughter. The pleasant yet annoying sound booming round his apartment. Why couldn't he be serious for once in his damned life? It
wasn't a laughing matter, I wouldn't do the same if I were in his shoes.

I crossed my arms over my chest with a huff as I waited for the phase to while away. "It is not funny."

"Yes, it is." He laughed. "Damn, I would pay to see Alia's reaction right now."
