Chapter 28: Voluble

The new office I recently moved into was recently rearranged. An additional table was placed in the office, making it look a bit crowded, even though it had enough space. Still, a wooden table pin board managed to occupy half of the wall from the door to the left end.

I was now to share an office with Jasmine, a former intern who got promoted a year ago. I didn't mind the arrangement and exchange of working space but Jasmine seemed to, because throughout the whole process she kept talking about how much she preferred her former office and hos she missed Cafy.

Cafy, I found out some minutes ago, happened to be the coffee machine she had in her office. I also found out about Lewis and Channel, the printer and her 'comfortable' swivel chair.

I had suggested that she just moved the items instead of blabbing all day (though I didn't tell her the blabbing part to her face) but she refused, saying that Cynthia would murder her if she dared to move anything without permission.

I then suggested that she should take permission or request for new ones but she declined again, saying that she didn't want to imagine the look Cynthia would give her if she did. According to her, she would be dead on the spot.

I also found, that Jasmine wasn't actually such a grumpy person; she was funny and super nice when not complaining about everything. I also found out that she wasn't a real brunette and that she had an obsession with sushi, when she was 14 she had a girlfriend named Zion who accidentally killed her godmother's parrot, and she also had an obsession with gravy and chipmunk's at some point of her life.

All this I found out within a span of two hours of her moving in.

I already knew a whole lot about her, both the good, bad and weird, but I highly doubt if she knew my name.

"I'm about to order from haywire sushi, do you want anything?" she picks up the telephone after dialing series of numbers into it. "You probably do. No offence, but you look pale. It's either you haven't eaten all day or you use the wrong foundation color. Or maybe both."

I look at her with a raised eyebrow, not really surprised by her blabbing. "I'm fine. Thanks anyway."

"Oh c'mon, Lian, you've been here with me all day and I'm pretty sure you haven't eaten anything. Sushi will do you some good, or do you not like sushi? I can order something else for you, how about some samosas?"

I sigh, giving her a small smile. "I do like sushi but I'm not in the mood, besides, we close in less than an hour. I'll eat something when I get home. Don't worry about it."

She pinches the bridge of her freckled nose, shaking her head in dissatisfaction. "I'll just order some samosa's for you. I don't have the strength to carry you in case you black out. Vegan or regular?"

I groan, running a hand through my hair. Realizing that I will have to spend less than half of every weekday with her would actually make work much fun even though she talks a lot and is very arduous.
