Chapter 10: NothingWith my satchel hanging on my shoulder, a wide brimmed hat placed on my head for protection from the scotching sun and a plastic cup of pink lemonade in my hands, which I found highly disgusting but was drinking for reasons unknown to me, Alia and I both walked down the streets of downtown Portland.
The day had flown by quickly, though I had nothing important to do except spend an entire afternoon roaming Portland.
Narrating yesterday's event to Alia, I found, was one of the worst experiences of my life. I knew I could tell Alia anything but there are times when she feels the gravity of the information I give her is pretty high, her reaction sometimes is somewhat surprising.
So, explaining exactly what had happened last night seemed as though it was impossible but after what felt like hours, I nailed it.
Yes, I was able to explain it all to her, even though she kept interrupting me by asking really unnecessary questions and giving irrelevant opinion but making her understand that nothing out of the ordinary happened between Harry and I was another challenge on own.
"Things are working pretty well with you and Harry," Alia blurts out, a sly smile playing on her lips as she stares up at Portland's skyline. I roll my eyes at her knowing what she's doing but I decide to stay silent. "I mean you are both getting physically-"
"Drop it, Alia!" I said, coming to a halt.
She releases her hands from mine, the smile on her face only growing wider. "What?" She smiles, throwing her hands in the air.
"You know exactly what you're doing, Alia. Stop. Now!" I hiss.
"Well excuse me for being truthful, Emy, but you and Harry have something going on and even if you don't admit it, we both, Niall included, know it's true"
I wasn't denying anything because I knew that there was absolutely nothing going on between Harry and me, both physically and emotionally. I wasn't anything important to Harry, neither was he to me. Alia just had a habit of over-exaggerating things, making them seem more important than they are.
"For goodness sake, Alia, there's nothing going on between us," I say, playing with the top of my artificial lemonade.
"Nothing?" She questions. "Do you choose to ignore the fact that he kissed you? Harry Styles kissed you for fucks sake but yet you choose to be your naïve self and come up with this ridiculous lie that nothing is going on between you two." She scoffs.
"It's not a lie, Alia, I'm telling you the truth."
"Yeah. Then this evening he's going to send his hot as hell driver to pick you up, drop you off at his apartment then you two asses are going to repeat the shagging process again, then maybe you might get more intimate with each other and before you know, it's a never ending cycle." She deadpans, taking in a sharp breath.
She shakes her head censoriously as she picks up her walking pace, with me following behind her.
"I doubt it's going to repeat itself, I mean nothing to Harry and I'm sure of it," I sigh as I catch up with her.
"Nothing?" She questions again as she stops walking causing me to roll my eyes out of frustration. "If you mean nothing to Harry, please explain to me why he would take you on a date? Why would he kiss you more than once? If you mean nothing to him, I'm absolutely sure he would have taken advantage of you from day one, Emiliana, but he didn't, he kept you around, love, and to me that is more than nothing."
When it comes to issues concerning any sort of relationship, Alia gives the best advice. And although she might joke about it a lot, I know her gift to give remarkable advice comes from the heart.
