Chapter 29: The Family
My realization was vague, even though it was clear, but yet it was very confusing.
After we had settled in our seats after the exchange of pleasantries, Harry had ordered our food and a bottle of wine and it didn't take less than a second for Harry and his sister to fall into a conversation and it was quite amazing watching them chat and Harry smile cheekily at her, but it gave me time to ponder.
It was one thing to like someone, and it's another thing to be in a relationship with that person. It was also one thing to not be in a relationship with someone and another for that person to make you feel as if you were in a relationship with them.
Harry had someone managed to drill the fact of not wanting a relationship with me into my head. I'm reminded of it every time he does something contrary to that, like now.
Taking me to meet his mother and sister totally contradicts what I thought was what he wanted, what he made very clear to me. He's unknowingly putting me in a state of misunderstanding with every little thing he does, and now bringing me to his family is like the cherry on top.
And it was possible that bringing me to his family was just an innocent act in his path and he had absolutely no intention behind it but it's still kind of odd because in movies when things like this happen, they surely is an intension behind it.
Or maybe it was merely a coincidence?
I almost snort at how stupid my thought was. He didn't look surprised when he saw his mother and sister seated on a table reserved by him which was also the exact one the host led us to, so there was no coincidence there.
"Emiliana," Anne called my name, gaining my attention. I looked at the woman who had concerned look and a small smile on her face. "Are you okay? You seemed to have gone deep."
"Oh," I murmured, placing a strand of hair behind my ears. "I'm okay, just thinking. Nothing important."
"If you say so," I knew she wasn't convinced but I couldn't just tell her that her son was unknowingly playing with my feelings. "Have you lived in Oregon for long? It's a beautiful city might I add, really nice people too."
I smiled at her, glad she was trying to start a conversation. "Actually, I'm from the Key West but I've lived here for four years at most and there is no denying that it really is a beautiful city, though ninety-five percent of the people here are tolerable."
She gives a full hearted smile, one which was very familiar, the dimple in her cheek and crinkles by her eyes as prominent as that of her son's. "Key West is over three thousand miles away. You probably miss home."
"I do," I admit, smiling at her. "But Oregon was worth it."
"Oh, I took Harry and Gemma to their aunt in Miami once," her eyes light up at the memory. She says in a lower voice. "Harry was about six and thought it was a wise idea to run around the yard in only swimming trunks, under a very scorching sun."
I couldn't help but smile at the thought of a very young Harry, running around in his trunks. She didn't have to reach the end of the story for me to know that it wouldn't end well considering his body system wasn't used to the blazing sun back at home.0
"He ran around uncountable amount of times and when he finally stopped, he vomited all over the place, vomiting on his aunt in the process." She laughs lightly, looking at her son then back at me. "He fell sick afterwards."
I smiled, looking at Harry who was still talking to his sister. "He must have been bumped."
"No, not at all," She said. "Six year old Harry hated Miami, according to him it was hotter than hell and he called the people there aliens because of their really tanned skin."
