Chapter 25
Wait what?
Fallon POV
I can’t believe it!
They’re leaving, just like that! Leaving while I’m still dangling, God knows how high up in the air. I start struggling in earnest now hoping that is I just work hard enough I can kick start the laws of gravity. Emmitt is baying like a donkey my ear, he must be watching through someone’s recorder, he had better not be streaming this or he is going to die.
“You could try helping us Emmitt, rather then laughing your ass off.”
“Are you kidding, I’m not leavin’ this here ship till them savages go. They’re major freaky scary.”
“My hero.” Katerina sighs sarcastically.
“I an’t stupid, looks like they’re leavin’ you alone. I’ll come out then.”
“Amelia, you were so right to dump that boy. He might be hot, but he’s as chicken as they come.”
“Yeah, and he was a lousy la-”
"Why are you here?" the copy had interrupts.
She has hesitated at a pillar watching our interaction, one of the males is trying to pull her away, but she refuses to go, “Way are you here anyway?”
Should I tell her? What would happen if she tells the others down the mountain, would they stop leaving their young or just start doing worst to them? But at the same time this might be the only way to get down that doesn't involve broken skulls, namely Lacey’s and mine.
“Why…have…you…come?” The teenager asks talking slowly as if this would help us understand her better.
We remained silent.
Beauty advanced on us, that strange creature still on her shoulder. “She asked you why you are here, Tyrii?”
The explanation explodes out of the terrified Amelia, her words flowing so fast, the words trip over them selves, "We came for the babies, to take them back to our planet."
"So you came here to take our children?” the short dirty blonde one demands.
"Hey, it's not like you want them!" Katrina defends getting to her feet.
"They’re defective, why would anyone want them?" the blonde argues.
"Ali you have been warned. Once more outburst like that and you go back on the pile." The beauty warns, "Jared let them down."
Lacey and I were not so gently lowered to the ground, the moment her feet hit the floor she was charging at the beauty.
"Lacey! Nooo!" Before my warning has a chance to leave my mouth she is on the ground screaming.
Rushing over I try to pry her hands away from her head, looking up at Beauty I demand "What are you doing?"
"Defending myself." She shrugs like it should be obvious.
"Well stop it alright. She won’t do it again."
"Fine, but keep your pet under control. You lot are the aggressors here not us."
"We haven't done anything to you."
She simply stares at me, eyebrow raised.
I feel very small as I remember that I shot her in the arm, "Sorry."
"What did you mean by you take them to your planet?" Copy questions.
"We come from the heavens," Doc Reedman starts forward, trying to sound all mystical, "From the great sky, we are gods you must worship and sacrifice to or else...."
Holding up her hand Beauty stopped the doctor cold, "Right, your not allowed to talk anymore, got it?"
"But you must fear us for we..." he starts to say again, waving his arms around like an idiot.
"Boys, if the creepy white haired one talks again you have my permission to… play with him. Understand?"
Doc visibly shivers at the way she says play hell I shiver too. The two boys just nod eagerly, evil grins plastered across their otherwise angelic faces.
"Why do you want the babies?" Copy says trying to bring everyone back to the topic.
"A couple of generations ago our planet was plagued by a disease.” I began, there was no point in lying now. “In the beginning there was no cure and hundreds of thousands died. Then like a miracle a vaccine was found and injected into the remaining population, both the sick and the healthy. The results were immediate no more deaths, but it was not until later that the side effects were noticed."
I took a deep breath before continuing. "The vaccine caused half our population to become infertile, in those still able to have children half of those were infertile as well. My great-great-grandfather had come to your planet years ago to study you, he witnessed your Blood Moon ritual and told the stories to his grandson.”
Katerina takes over the telling, "When grandmother found out she could not have children it broke her heart. She begged grandfather for a divorce as he was able to still have children, but he loved her and would not leave her. So remembering the old stories he came here one red moon night and found three jars upon the altar. Opening them he found three hungry cold infants, he took them back to his ship and back home to his wife. Our family and others now come here every red moon time and rescue the abandoned babies."
"So you come and take our rejects, because you can't breed your own?" the dirty blonde Ali sneers.
“Shut up Ali, no one wants to hear you twisted views.” The teenager yells.
"Believe it or not most cultures care for their young!" Katerina retorts.
"Right, let me see if I have got this straight.” Beauty starts to tick things off on her fingers, “One: Ali is a xenophobic moron.”
Ali stated to protest but the one named Jared holds her back.
“Two: You lot come from an infertile far away planet. And three: you will be returning there soon, yes?" Beauty asks, for some reason I was a little afraid of the glint in her eyes.
"Yessss." I slowly say, not seeing where she was going with this.
"Marvelous, we will go with you then." That decided they all walk toward where we entered.
"Wait what?"
