Chapter 26
Not invited
Leira POV
These Tyrii really are slow.
Pause at the edge of cavern, waiting for the others to catch up, I repeat more clearly. "We’re leaving with you. Now, let's go."
"You can't come with us!" the leader bellows.
His huge footsteps quickly close the distance between us, till he is towering over me, trying to use his height to intimidate me. Wrong move. He really is tall though, I only come up to his chin, but this doesn’t stop me from meeting his glare. Grounding my feet and placing my hands on my hips, glare back, our faces are so close ours noses almost touch.
Jarad comes to stand behind me demanding, "Why not?"
Tough Jarad asked the question, the answer was directed to me, "Because you just can’t!”
I lift my eyebrow and wait for the next part of his brilliant defense. “We are just here for the babies, nothing and no one else. We can't take you lot or them." he waves his arm in the general direction of the mound.
"They're not coming, it’s just us." I state, never breaking eye contact.
"That is still too many," he says exasperated.
"Why not them?" his relation asks from somewhere behind me.
"They’re normal, they are only up here because of the fear below. When we’re gone they will return to their families. " Ariel softly predicts.
“Your. Not. Coming.” He growls.
“Are too.”
“Are not.”
“Are too.”
“Are! Not!” A small vain has started to throb on his forehead, making one eye twitch.
“Are too.” I sweetly sing.
“Are! Not!” he screams, before throwing his hands in the air and walking away.
I win.
Wiping a pretend drop of spit of my face I smile wide before saying, “Are too.”
Looking around at the others, I see the shocked expression on their faces; Ariel just looks resigned, as she knows I can never back down from a challenge.
I started ripping strips from my shirt expecting the others followed suit, "Come on, we have to make this look convincing. Rose get the blood."
With a start everyone suddenly remembers the plan and get to work.
"What the sheol are you doing now Beauty?" his words sound almost tried and at first I didn’t realize he was talking to me.
Glancing over in surprise I see him leaning against a pillar, massaging his pulsing vain.
"Faking a Tyrii attack." I reply before returning to what I’m doing.
"Why?" the white haired one asks hesitantly.
Together the boys advance a step towards him and he ran to hide behind the blue one.
Yeah, these Tyrii are so brave.
"The only way these people will be allowed to return is if they are believed to be pure. " Ariel explains. "If the Tyrii, I mean you were to only devour the unnatural then those left behind must be normal. They return and no one will come to hunting us down."
"Your blue pointy tooth one, can help.” I motioned at her, “Look, this is getting ridicules, do any of you have names?"
The blue one just sneered.
Shaking his head the giant pushes off the wall to do the introductions, "She is Lacey, I'm Fallon this is my sister Katerina," he throw an arm around her shoulder, hugging her, "That is Doctor Amelia Hoffman, and the man hiding behind Lacey is Doctor Patrick Reedman. And you lot are?"
Ever polite Ariel walks over to do the honors, "Hello. I am Ariel, this is my sister Leira and my..."
"Mate." Jared mind quickly supplies.
Blushing Ariel continues "…my mate Jared. The blonde is Ali holding baby Juli and Rose is the short brunette," Rose timidly waves when her name is called. "The boys are Geramy and Rolond.” Each waved in turn, “Over there is Griffin with the unconscious Sofi."
"What's wrong with her? Is there something I can do to help?" the one named Amelia offered.
"She's fine," Griffins voice is rough when he speaks. "We are keeping her asleep for her own good. She is not ready to face the world yet."
"What happened?" Amelia walks over to put a comforting hand on Sofi's brow.
"We will tell you on you when we are safe, there’s not much moon light left." I reminded them. "Lacey, I want you to attack me."
"I said you weren’t coming with us?" Fallon's utters but his words are drowned out by Lacey's scathing reply.
"So you may cripple me again? No thank you!"
"As long as you stop when I say, you will be fine. If we can get them to witnesses the attack then it will be more believable. When you are done just turn to them and proclaim them pure. That way they will have fresh tales Tyrii gore to scare little children with, and everybody’s happy.”
Fallon mutters something so quietly that I almost miss it, but it sounded like, “I’m not,”
“Why should I help you?” her lip curled when she finished, flashing a hint if fang.
Unimpressed I told her “You get as many free hits as you can.”
There is a gleam in her eye as she nods.
“Okay then lets get started, boys play dead,” I order.
“You can’t come with us.” Fallon starts up again, but everyone ignores him.
Rose got the lambet blood Ariel brought with her and begins squirting it on and around the boys.
“Your not coming.”
Ali goes to sit against a pillar with Juli in her arms then she was squirted too.
“You’re not coming with us!”
Ariel lay with her lower half hidden by the altar while Griffin carries Sofi to the border of light so half their bodies were covered in darkness.
‘Lokki, if you would be so kind as to partially wake some witnesses. Just enough for them to remember, but not enough to flee.’
‘With pleasure, Human.’ He nods jumping up onto the pile looking for candidates.
Fallon grabs my arm as I walk passed him, placing both his hands on my shoulders while looking deep into my eyes. He shakes me slightly with each point he makes.
“Listen very carefully. We are not taking you with us. You are not invited you cannot come. Do you understand?” He finishes nodding his head up and down very slowly.
All I could do was smile as I pat his cheek gently. “My poor, dear, toweringly weird Tyrii. What can you possibly do to stop us?”
