As we drive to the facility, it starts raining outside. Drizzling and fogging up the inside.
"Schist," I mutter, waving my hand to clear some of it.
Zane chuckles.
"What's so funny?"
"Ah, nothing. It's just so cute how you curse."
He wiggles his finger at me, tickling my cheek. I push it away and poke him in the arm.
"I know I'm fabulous, but focus on the road please."
A few minutes later we're at the facility. It's raining harder and I dig in my bag for an umbrella.
"Fudge," I say, looking up at the sky.
Zane laughs and digs in the trunk.
"Ah, here we go." He pops open a black umbrella and put it over us.
We rush to the door and get in. We shake ourselves off and Zane sets the umbrella against the wall.
"See ya in a bit." He waves then walks up the stairs.
"Bye."
I walk to the training room and see Elliyot leaning against the wall twirling her scythe. She pushes off and comes up to meet me.
"Ready?"
"Yeah, just let me change."
I quickly change and summon my scythe.
I twirl it around, feeling it part the air around me. I pull it, and lean forward.
"Ready."
We both charge at each other, clashing our scythes. Sparks fly and the air smells metallic. Elliyot pulls back and slices towards my side. I lean, cracking my back, and flip over. I kick my feet up, knocking Elliyot's scythe out of her hand. I flip back up, my scythe swinging in front of me. She summons it back instantly and swings it at my legs. I jump and bring my scythe down on her back. She dodges and hooks her scythe behind my ankle and her hand behind my back, flipping me over. I bounce back up, my scythe balancing me. Elliyot swings her scythe at my neck, almost grazing it. I bring mine up and push back, metal clashing on metal. We charge again and our scythes meet each other.
We look at each other and breathe hard.
"Good.... Fight," Elliyot breathes.
"You.... Too."
We back up and put our scythes away.
After I change, I head up to Zane's room.
I open the door and see Zane sitting on a yoga mat, his legs crossed. His eyes are closed and his hands rest in his lap.
Another mat is across from him.
"Seriously?" I put my hands on my hips.
He cracks open his eyes.
"Hello my pupil. I see you have come to benefit from the extent of my knowledge."
I play along. "Oh yes, wise Sensei. Teach me the ways of the Zane."
I put my fists together and bow.
He grins up at me. "I like your attitude. Sit down, my pupil." He gestures to the mat across from him.
I plop down and cross my legs.
"Now pupil, close your eyes and focus on someone you do not particularly care for."
I close my eyes and an image of Lilo rises behind them.
"Thinking of them."
"Good. What do you think about this person?"
"Well.... I barely know her. But, I do know she hates me."
"How do you know? I mean, you don't know her, right?"
"If someone glares and sneers at you, I'm pretty sure you would think they hate you."
"There is no need for that tone, my pupil."
I open my eyes and see Zane grinning slightly.
"Now, if Lilo fought you, what would you do?"
"Probably fight her back."
Zane sighs.
"C'mon Aria. You can't solve everything by fighting."
"But I can solve this situation by fighting."
Zane sighs again.
"At least let her come at you first. That way you can say you were acting in self defense and it'll give you some time to calm your soul."
"Ok," I huff.
"Ok, now close your eyes again and take a couple deep breaths. When you're angry, focus on how you breath."
"Focus on how I breathe?" I open my eyes, looking at him to see if he was serious.
He shrugs. "Hey, it works for me."
I close my eyes and breathe. In and out. In and out. In and out.
I open my eyes. "Now what?"
"I already told you. Focus on how you breathe. Concentrate the way you do when you summon your scythe."
I breathe. I breathe again.
"This is boring."
"Well what do you think you should do to calm down?," Zane huffs.
I shrug. "I usually do something. Like drawing or messing around with something."
"Ok, well do that."
"I have nothing to do here."
"So breathe."
"Ugh.....," I moan.
Zane rolls his eyes. "Just do it."
I close my eyes and make bored noises.
I can practically hear Zane rolling his eyes again.
"Ok, well I don't really know what else to do with you, so I guess class is over."
I look at him. "Oh thank god."
He rolls his eyes and gets up.
Zane holds out a hand to me. I grip it and he pulls me up.
We head for the door and bounce down the stairs.
"Want me to drop you off?"
"Sure."
