Thunder boomed, jolting me from my slumber. I had never been to afraid of storms, rather the sound that came with them. Thunder was a loud, evil sound that seemed to come straight from the devil itself.

I heard something move outside my door. I spun to face it, clinging to the blankets. My hair was still slightly damp from my shower earlier, and it hung around my face, shielding me from whatever was there.

*James/Niall's POV*

Quickly, I threw on the coloured contacts I always wore around Mattie. As it was my month off, I didn't get my hair dyed yet, so it was totally brown as of right now, and I decide that would be fine. I peeled off the wax paper backing on a fake moustache, and threw it on before checking up on Mattie.

I grabbed the door handle and slowly twisted it, letting light flood the bedroom. "Mattie, are you alright?" I called.

"Jesus Christ James, you scared the crap outta me!"

James? Who the hell... Oh wait. That was me.

"It's quite loud, I reckoned you may have woken."

"Yeah, I did, but I'm fine." She mumbled rubbing her arm softly.

I furrowed my brow. Something wasn't...

Thunder echoed through the house once moor, nearly shaking the floor I stood on. Mattie whimpered, clutching the blankets in her small hands. Her large green eyes trailed onto the window, where lightning was now flashing.

"Everything's fine. Right." I said, smirking.

Mattie turned to me, sticking out her tongue. "I'm not scared of storms, just the sounds they make." She sighed. Personal I thought that was an irrational fear, but I ignored my own feelings.

I shuffled to the edge of the bed, and sat down on the edge. Mattie turned to me, eyes questioning. I just grinned.

"Lie down." I smiled. She rolled her eyes, but lay down on top of the blankets. She was wearing some new pyjamas, ones with little clovers on them, courtesy of myself. I chuckled a little at the sight, but just let her get comfortable.

"Ready?" I asked her. She closed her eyes and nodded, even though she had no clue what my plans were.

I coughed a little, only having done this a few times before, yet began to sing.

"Your hand fits in mine, like it's made just for me,"

I saw her lips curl up as I sang softly to her. Long blonde hair was splayed across the pillow, and I brushed it away from her pretty face so she wouldn't be irritated at night.

"And I'm joining up the dots, with the freckles on your cheeks, and it all makes sense to me."

"One Direction." she murmured softly.

I stiffened. Had she figured it out?

"My friend Darcy is a really big fan of theirs." She continued.

I relaxed. She didn't know a thing. "Oh really? Are you a fan of theirs?" I asked, now interested.

Much to my disappointment, she shook her head. "I haven't heard much of their songs. Darcy loves this one though. Small things or something?"

"Little." I corrected. "Little things."

Mattie smirked, eyes still closed. Her voice was heavy with sleep. "Funny name for a song. Sounds like they're talking about privates." she blushed. "Little Willys."

I laughed loudly. "Oh my god, it does. I cant believe I never noticed that!"

"A fan, are you?" she grinned.

I blushed a little. "Sure. You could say I'm friends with them." I said.

Mattie laughed. "Yeah right."

"No, truly."

"Maybe you could hook up Darce and Harold or whatever. She loves him to bits."

I chuckled. "I'll be sure to tell him about her."

Mattie smiled a little. "She showed me their pictures once." She mumbled.

"Anyone look fit?" I couldn't resist asking. Getting to know the public, first hand. That's it. I insist.

Mattie shook her head, making my heart sink. "Only one, really." She said.

My heart picked up again. "What one?"

Mattie smiled a little. "Niall. The blonde one."

I straightened up, my heart galloping. "Really?"

Mattie smiled a little. Her face glowed when she did just that. "Mmhm. Something bout him just is so endearing. But like I should talk, I don't know their songs, his solos, or anything about him really." She smiled slightly. "Just saw a photo of him."

I couldn't help but smile. "Mmhm." I said, the small smile still gracing my lips. I looked up, and noticing the thunder had gone, I sighed.

"The thunder's gone love. Time to sleep. Good night." I said, beginning to leave

A small hand wrapped around my wrist, holding me down to the bed.

"Wait." Mattie said, her voice sleep-laden. I looked upon her. She looked like a little sleepy kitten.

"Stay here." She murmured, dropping my wrist.

My breathing hitched. Stay here? In the same bed and everything?

Oh, calm down Niall, it's not like you're going to have sex or anything.

I bent down and crawled next to Mattie. I didn't have much of a choice, she was right smack-dab in the middle the damn bed.

"Can you sing again please?" she asked, voice hopeful. Her eyes were closed, but I knew if they were open, they would be twinkling.

"Of course. What song?"I asked, shifting to get comfortable again.

"Little things again, if that's alright." She said, snuggling into the pillows. I smiled, and opened my mouth to begin, but he cut me off.

"Niall's solo, if he has one in there. Please?"

I laughed a little, and grinned. "Course."

I cleared my throat, and began;

"You'll never love yourself half as much as I love you. And you'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to. If I let you know I'm here, for you. Maybe you'll love yourself, like I, love you." I sang softly. Mattie's breaths slowly became regulated, as she fell asleep next to me. Apparently she wasn't fully asleep when I had finished though, as she smiled.

"You have a lovely voice."

I blushed. "Thank you."

And together, we drifted off to sleep
