Chapter 8
I woke up to an elbow digging in my stomach. I opened my eyes slowly due to the bright sun shining in through the gap in the curtains. I looked down to my stomach and a arm was draped over me. I followed the arm back to the person to see who it was. The person was facing towards me slightly and I could see their eyes flickering, possibly dreaming. They looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake them up. Oh dear, I feel a sneeze brewing.
"ACHOO!!!" bugger! They flinched. I looked at their face and their eyes were slowly opening. With his other arm, he ran his hand through his short but messy hair and then rubbed his face to help wake himself up. He looked back towards me.
"Morning Roxanne." he whispered in his sexy, sleepy voice.
"Morning Finnley. Sleep well?"
"Yeah actually. Must have been the comfort blanket I had." he sleepily winked at me and rolled onto his side to fully face me. I turned to mirror him, only inches away from each other but I felt safe. "How's your head?"
"Fine. I never drink much coz I hate hangovers. You must be feeling sore, you had a fair few to drink."
"I'm used to it, besides, I wasn't going to miss your game now was I?"
SHIT!!! I sat bolt upright and tried to find the time. I looked everywhere around the room but couldn't find anything. I walked towards the door to find my bag. That's strange. When did I come upstairs? I don't remember leaving the lounge. Oh well. I shook my head and hastily made my way downstairs and into the lounge where I left my bag. Everyone was starting to stir now, I clambered over a few bodies on the floor and found my bag by the window. I reached in and grabbed my phone. 3 texts and a missed call.
12 O'CLOCK!
I only had an hour before I had to be there. I turned around to walk out and Finnley was standing in the doorway. I jumped.
"God Finnley. You should really stop creeping up on people." I said with a slight chuckle in my voice.
"Sorry. Again. When do you have to be there?"
"In an hour. Do you think Joey would mind if I used his shower?"
"I can't see why not. We always do." with that I ran upstairs and locked the bathroom door. I found a bath towel in a cupboard and hoped in the shower.
I was only 10 minutes. I switched off the nice warm shower and wrapped the towel around my body. I thought I'd find another room to change in incase anyone needed the bathroom. I unlocked the door and peered out into the corridor. No-one in sight. I went across the corridor and into the room I was in earlier. Once again I checked if anyone was in there before I went in. I quickly changed back into my dress seen as all my stuff was at Rochelle's. I swiftly moved downstairs and found everyone sitting upright mostly holding their heads.
"Rochelle can I have the keys to your house? I need to get my stuff for football."
"Do you really need to shout though?"
"I wasn't. Maybe you had too much to drink." Rochelle knew how to have a good time. She ferreted around in her before presenting me with the keys.
"Thanks. I'll bring them back in a sec." with that, I ran over everyone and headed for the back door. I bounded through the gate and slammed it shut behind me. I ran to Rochelle's door and put the key in the lock. As soon as I had turned it I was straight upstairs and changed. I put on my sports bra and vest top that I play in and put my football team hoody over the top. I slipped on my trackies and put on my black and pink high tops. I chucked everything in my bag and ran back downstairs. I stopped off in the kitchen to grab a bread roll and headed back over to Joey's.
When I got back there, Finnley was standing outside leaning on the conservatory.
"You don't mess about do you?" he said looking rather chilled out.
"Can't keep me from my sport." I went passed him and found everyone still in the same places as when I left.
"There's your keys Rochelle. I'm off guys."
"Where you going so early?" a tired Stacey asked.
"It's 12.15 and I've got to get down to footy."
"Oh yeah that's today. We'll be down in about and hour." how could he almost forget about it seen as it was Dwayne's idea.
"Anyway I gotta go. I'll see you lot later." I called back at them as I walking out of the house.
"Mind if I come down now with you Roxanne?"
"No sure you can Finnley. As long as we can off at Spar to get a drink." he nodded and we walked off towards the bridge.
We talked none stop on the way through town. I felt really casual and if we'd been mates for years. It was nice to see a different side of Finnley, one that I didn't expect to see ever. We got to Spar and I chose my drink and grabbed a packet of skittles. I found Finnley looking through the selection of warm chicken fillets in buns. He picked one up and then took my stuff off me.
"What you doing?"
"I'll pay for them." he smiled and walked towards the counter. Maybe Finnley was serious about changing.
I waited outside for him and sat on the railings looking through my texts. One off the coach, one off Aaron and one off Calvin. I replied to them all by the time Finnley came out of the shop.
"Took your time." I said with a cheeky grin on my face.
"I'm sorry I kept the princess waiting." Princess? Now he was really making an effort.
We had plenty of time so we decided to stop off at the park and have a sort of mini picnic. I opened my packet of skittles and threw one at Finnley. Bulls eye! Right on the forehead. He slowly looked up and had that angry but 'thought it was funny' face on. He picked up the skittle and launched it at me. Luckily I ducked out the way. We looked at each other before bursting out laughing.
I picked up his chicken fillet bun thing and took a huge bite out of it.
"Hey! What you doing?"
"I need my energy for the game. You wouldn't want me to do bad now would you?" I gave him my best puppy dog eyes but I was rubbish at them. He smiled so I took another bite.
"Hey!"
"I've finished now I promise."
We finished our stuff and left the park. Instead of going around through the gate, we decided to climb over the fence. Perhaps a bad idea seen as the fence was about 2 and half metres high and I'm only 5 foot 4. Finnley climbed to the top first and helped me up. With short arms and legs it proved to be quite difficult. I clambered to the top and Finnley chucked my bag down the other side and soon followed.
"You know I quite like it up here. I might stay up here."
"Come on Roxanne. It's not that far down. Just jump and I'll catch you." I closed my eyes... and I jumped.
THUMP!
I opened my eyes and found myself safely back on the ground. Well I say on the ground, I should say on Finnley.
"Oh sorry. Did I hurt you?" I asked as I quickly got to my feet.
"No I'm fine. I'm a tough lad." he replied with a smirk on his face. I put out my hand for him and helped him back too his feet. I must have pulled him up harder than I thought because we ended up only centimetres apart. I could feel his heavy breathing on my face and his chest was moving. We stood their for a while just staring at each other.
Then something happened...
