Chapter 7
I grabbed the bottle opener off him and flipped off the lid of my drink onto the table and chucked the opener on the table. Why did he have to be here? It was only confusing me even more. This was the guy I had loved as long as I'd known him. I finally stopped bothering to impress him. Now he was telling me he liked me!
I turned away and as I was just about to walk away I felt a hand grab mine. I turned back to face him. He seemed to have a glint in his eyes but not the flirty glint.
"We need to talk" he guided me slowly into the conservatory and invited me to sit along side him on the sofa. He turned to face me with his one leg on the sofa. I sat down but kept my distance from him.
"Look I'm sorry about the other day. I shouldn't have sprung that on you but I do care about you Roxanne. I guess I should have been honest with you from the start. I'm sorry" he looked down at his hands. He seemed really upset by this. The toughest guy in school is almost crying in front of me.
"I appreciate the apology Finnley but that doesn't change who you are. You hook with a different girl every weekend. How do you expect a girl you care about to take you seriously?"
He looked back up from his hands and looked into my eyes. I wish he wouldn't do that because it make this a hell of a lot harder to concentrate. "I know and you're right and I'm gunna change. I know everyone says a leopard can't change their spots but I'm gunna prove them all wrong." a smile came back to his face and it was lovely and warm. I smiled back at him to reassure him.
"Good for you. But you know it ain't gunna be easy. You're gunna be tempted by a lot of girls. You may think you've changed, but they won't trust me."
"Yeah I know but I'm gunna put my heart and soul into it." this was a side of Finnley I'd never seen before. But I liked it. With that, he quickly jumped off the sofa and gave me a gently peck on the check. He went back outside, but not before giving me a quick glance as he walked out the door back into the garden.
I took another swig from the bottle and went back to join the party. I found Michelle and Stacey talking to Dwayne, Alix and Gavin but there was no sign of Rochelle.
"Hey guys. Where's Rochelle?"
"Hey Rox. She went inside before you did and she ain't come out yet. Neither has Joey come to think of it" we all looked at each other and twigged at the same time what might be going on. Rochelle had like Joey for a while now but always said that nothing would ever happen between them. They would make an awesome couple and they live so close to each other.
Shortly later, they both walked out of the house together... Holding hands!
Joey left Rochelle to get another drink so now was our chance to question her.
"OMG when did you two hook up?" Stacey asked the question we were all dying to know.
"Well after I went inside he came in and just asked me out and that's about it" she replied with a smile on her face. We carried on questioning her until Joey returned and we soon stopped. He placed his arm around Rochelle's shoulder draping over her like he truly cared about her.
Katy Perry's Last Friday Night came on and the four of us started dancing in the middle of the garden. It was the perfect song for the party. We danced away to the song and even joined in with the lyrics but we were oblivious to the fact that all the guys were watching us. The song finished and we looked at the guys who were not looking but gawping in our direction. We all just giggled and walked over to the table to grab another drink.
We'd only been at the party for an hour but it seemed to be flying by. I was sitting on a deckchair talking to Gavin about football. He loved the same team as me, Liverpool. He's been to Anfield to see them play and he was saying how great the stadium was. I hadn't noticed that Finnley had come and sat right next to me but on the floor. I went to turn to see where the girls had gone and he was there.
"Jesus Finnley. You scared the crap out of me"
"Sorry Roxanne I didn't mean to" he sat there with puppy dog eyes. How could I be mad at that face?
It was actually really nice hanging out with the lads again. I used to hang out with them loads until Finnley started being a jerk and I kind of lost track with them. It felt right being around them. I missed our conversations about nothing and just general random crap.
Some how two hours flew by without realising. By now I was starting to get cold seen as I was only wearing a dress. Everyone was heading inside to warm up so I decided to follow them in rather than get hypothermia. We walked into his living room which was a decent size but only had actually seats for about eight people.
Stacey and Michelle had gone in a while before so had got a seat on the sofa along with Gavin and Dwayne. I settled for a space on the floor but it wasn't easy in a dress I can tell you now. I finally settled only to be disturbed by Alix and Darren falling off the sofa on top of me. It was extremely uncomfortable seen as they were pretty muscle toned and heavy. They finally got up and I was left squished on the floor stuck there. A hand appeared in front of me to help me up. I grabbed the hand not really looking who it was as I was making sure my dress didn't come up. I got back onto my feet and thanked the person for their help. It felt like this person was stalking me now. Helping me whenever I needed it.
"Thanks Finnley" I smiled at him and he leant down and whispered in my ear. As he whispered in my ear, I could hear my phone going off. I ran into the conservatory where I left my clutch bag and pulled out my phone. It was Aaron.
"Hey buddy how are you?" I answered.
"Fine thanks yourself?"
"Not bad at. What ya up to?"
"Not a lot really bored to be honest."
"So you thought you'd ring me? Well what can I do for you mister O'Leary?" saying it in an Irish accent. I could hear Aaron chuckling on the other end.
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tomorrow. In town or you could see where I live? Whatever unless you're busy."
"Sure. Well I'm in town tonight at Rochelle's so we could meet in town before my football match then head back to yours after if you like?"
"Sounds good. I'll be in town about 11ish then. See you tomorrow miss Jenkins." before I could answer him the phone call had ended. I placed my phone back in my bag and headed to the lounge.
"Hey Rox where'd you go?" a cheerful Michelle asked.
"Oh I was just on the phone to Aaron."
"Oooooooooooh" why were the girls doing this to me? In front of all the guys.
"You and Aaron hey." great now Shane was getting involved. Once he started it was hard to stop him.
"I thought you two were just mates?" wow! Ok now Finnley was involved and he actually sounded concerned. Right play this cool Roxanne.
"We are. He just wanted to know when my game of football was that's all." think I played it cool.
"Cool. We'll all come down and watch you play then." damn you Dwayne! Ok well that didn't go as planned. None of them had ever seen me play before. The team wasn't the best I'll admit that but we had so much fun it made it worthwhile.
"Yeah it should be fun. Well at least a laugh." Joey said whilst sniggering.
"Haha you lot are so funny. Well as long as you're supporting the team I couldn't care less." that was strictly false as they were bound to make fun of me and how I play. I'm gunna forget about that for now and enjoy myself.
Nothing is going to ruin my night!
