Chapter 19

I suddenly woke feeling rather chilly. The light was pouring in as the curtains were open. I felt amazing.

No hangover!

No dodgy stomach!

I’ve never felt this fresh waking up before. It was the best sleep I’ve had ever. There was a small knock coming from near the door.

“Who’s there?"

“It’s only me.” Darryl popped his head round the door and had the biggest grin on his face. “Sleep well?”

“Yeah. I’ve never slept that well before.” I pulled myself up the bed so I was sitting against the wall.

“Good. You hungry?”

“Starving. I could eat a horse.”

“Well I ain’t got a horse but I do have something else you can eat.” I was curious as to what he was on about. From around the door appeared a tray. He placed it down on my lap and sat next to me on the bed. It looked amazing and so appetising.

“Is this all for me?”

“Well if you can’t eat it all I’ll polish it off for you but yeah I thought you might like breakfast in bed.”

This has to be the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. “No-one’s ever done this for me before. Thank you.”

“No problem. Now tuck in before it gets cold.” I didn’t know where to start. I never usually felt subconscious when I was eating in front of people, but now felt different. Maybe because Darryl was watching me. Not in a creepy way just in a… I’m not sure what way but it certainly wasn’t creepy.

“So what time you leaving with the team?” I gulped down my water finishing it quickly.

“We’re meeting down the rugby fields at quarter past 11, the bus should already be there but we hope to leave at half past.” I started to demolish the bacon sarney. It was heaven. Just how I like it. “Here. You can finish it.”

“No it’s fine you eat it. You need your energy for today.”

“I insist. Besides, you did make it for me. Please.” Darryl reached out and took the remainder of it from me.

“What time is it now?”

Darryl pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked at the screen. “It’s just gone half nine. You coming down now or you gunna stay in bed for a while?”

“I’ll get up now otherwise I’ll never get up.” Darryl took the tray off my lap and put it at the end of the bed while he fetched my crutches for me. I swung my legs out of the bed and stood up, balancing myself with the crutches. I hadn't noticed it when he walked in but Darryl was still topless. I couldn't help me stare at him when he was holding my crutches for me. His muscles were tensing as he made sure I was balanced.

We made our way downstairs to find people stretched out everywhere. The guys were all still topless, I don’t know why, it wasn’t that warm. I shuddered in the doorway and turned to see Darryl standing directly behind me. I nearly jumped out of my skin.

“You scared me then Darryl.”

“Sorry. Do you want my jacket? You look cold.” we spoke quietly as everyone was still sleeping.
