Chapter 9
He leant down slowly and kissed me softly on the cheek.
He was such a gentleman about so I gave a small smile. That was a bad mistake. He smiled back at me and leant down again but this time he was aiming for my lips. I turned my head quickly making him kiss my cheek. He looked at me puzzled.
"Look Finnley. I like you I can't deny that but... you need time to change. Like what we were talking about last night. You shouldn't rush into anything."
"I thought you liked me though. Why would you turn away?"
Ok this was puzzling me now. He sounded like he was blaming me. It wasn't my fault he was addicted to girls.
"What? I just said I did but like I said last night you need to put effort into not hooking up with every girl you meet. You know I actually thought you were going to try. I guess I was wrong." I picked up my bag and crossed the road to walk down to the playing field.
"Wait Roxanne. I am trying but you just... I can't stop thinking about you. Roxanne please don't go!"
"I've got football." I shouted at him but didn't turn around, I just carried on at my quick pace down to the fields about ½ a mile away. I walked around the corner and turned around to make sure he wasn't following me. He wasn't. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and scrolled the contacts to find Rebecca.
"Hey Rox what's up?"
"Finnley tried to kiss me."
"OMG! Did you kiss him."
"No. We had a talk last night about him playing it cool for a while to prove that he isn't basically a man slut. And then he went and did that just now. Urgh my minds so messed up Bec. What should I do?"
"Look. You've liked him for a long time. I think you need t chill for a while. I mean these past few days have been all about Finnley. You need some space from him."
"Easier said than done. Him and the others were going to come down and watch my match."
"Well maybe he won't now. Anyway, try and forget about him when your playing. Zone into the game." I could hear her chuckling on the other end.
"Thanks Bec. I'll try my best. You gunna come down and watch? Cheer me on?"
"Yeah I might do and if he turns up I'll give him a piece of my mind. When is it?"
"Great it's 2 o'clock kick off. See ya later then." I hung up the phone I placed it in my pocket.
I carried on walking along the footpath towards the rugby pitches, I unlatched the gate and closed it behind me. People from the team were starting to arrive so I walked over to the changing rooms and made my way to the home changing room.
"Hey Rox how are you today? Ready to kick some butt?" my captain asked me.
"I certainly am." I threw my bag down on the floor and slumped down onto my usual seat. I unzipped my sports bag and pulled out my boots and shin pads. I wrote out the team sheet and grabbed the shirt I was going to wear from the kit bag.
I was glad I had football after what had just happened. They always cheered me up regardless of the conversation. Our captain always sat in the corner in her Scarlets top. She was the funniest person I knew. Her laugh was a sound to the ears and you couldn't help but laugh along with her.
