The Letter

I tossed and turned all night in my sleep. It seemed like every time I closed my eyes, my thoughts and dreams would be bombarded with the images of dementors coming after me, to take my soul away. Waking up in a cold sweat after every dream. Even though I'm twenty five I still felt like a child, feeling like the boogieman was coming for me. The only difference between you and me, is that I know for a fact boogiemen and creatures of the night actually do exist.

I closed my eyes hoping there wasn't anything or anyone standing next to my bed. Slowly I cracked my eyes and just like I had hoped there wasn't anything there. I sighed in relief and sat up in my bed. Suddenly there was a bump coming from my closet. Completely stunned I wasn't sure what to do. I grabbed my wand from the nightstand prepared that it was something dangerous.

Back at Hogwarts we trained for duels and battles, but I never had to actually defend myself in a real life situation. My mind was filling with fear and doubt that I could actually have to defend myself. I was scared. Cautiously I walked towards my closet, fearing my death with every step I took. When I finally was standing at my closet door, I stopped to see if there was any movement. Silence. Trembling, I reached my hand for the knob.

The door slammed open with a loud bang. I was knocked onto my backside, but my wand was still at the ready. I yelled out with all of my might,

"Expelliarmus!"

A flash of light left my wand and towards the closet. I could hear something getting throw and hitting the very back of it. There was a loud thud, and with that I stood up and paced towards the blackness of the closet.

"Who are you?! Come on out or I'll do worse!" I yelled trying to be brave.

I could hear shuffling as something emerged from the darkness. I could see a short creature with a pillowcase looking dress coming towards me. It spoke softly.

"I is not here to hurt you miss. Winky is only here to give you this." She said.

It was a house elf. She was old but had kind eyes. Her hands shook as she presented me with a letter. I reached my hand out gently and took the letter.

"I'm sorry about that, I didn't know." I said with my head down.

"It's ok. Winky has had it much worse then a little bump on me head." She replied back

I opened the letter carefully. I read it slowly trying to digest each word.
