The Details

I turned to the house elf that was still in my room. 

"Can you tell me anything at all before I accept or not?" I asked her. 

"Under specific orders of the Ministry, I can't miss." She said proudly. 

I thought for a minute. 

What would the Ministry want with me? I haven't committed any crimes, I have no skills the Ministry would want. Why me?

My own curiosity got the best of me. I could't help myself, I had to find out. I turned to the house elf. 

"Winky right?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am." She said. 

"I will accept the Ministry's offer." I said rocking back and forth on my heels. 

Winky's eyes lit up. I could tell that she was pleased with my answer. 

"In that case, the Ministry is asking for your presence, because you have taken a sudden interest in dementors. The Ministry's got eyes and ears all over the world and lately they have taken a notice in your curiosity with those foul things. Beyond that, I can't tell you more." She said. 

She turned around and headed for the closet. 

"Be at the Ministry at 12AM on August 9th. The rest will be shown to you when you get there." She said. 

Winky the house elf turned and snapped her fingers. In a poof of smoke she was gone. 

I took the letter and laid it on the nightstand.

"Two days from now, I'll be working with the Ministry. What are my parents going to think?" I asked to myself and I got back into bed and shut my eyes. 

Winky arrived at her original location. She was standing in a den looking at her master's chair. The fireplace was hot and crackling. She looked up at her master. 

"Did she accept?" He asked. 

"Yes sir, she did." Winky said proudly. 

The man leaned forward in his chair. He exhaled a cloud of smoke from the pipe in his mouth. 

"Very good." He said as he sank back into his chair.
