~~~NEW YEAR'S EVE~~~
I awoke with a smile on my face and rolled over to look at the clock. [3:17] God, I need to start getting ready... this may take forever!
I stumbled out of bed and headed for the kitchen. I looked around for Andy, but I guess he had already left.
After I ate a little something, I soaked in a nice long bath with sweet smelling oils; then I put on my make-up and fixed my hair.
My face was fresh with a beautiful glow and my hair was mostly pinned up with three or four loose curls hanging over my shoulder.
I put on small diamond earrings and a matching necklace; and then the last part was the dress.
When I finished it was time to leave, I grabbed my mask and ran out the door.
I arrived at the country club a little after eight, I stepped out of my car and butterflies swirled in my stomach.
Carpe Noctem! I inhaled a deep breath, put on my mask, and entered the ballroom.
I moved around the room, studying the faces of all the masked men, trying to pick out my date.
Finally, I think I found him standing in a corner; he looked so dashing in his black tux with tails.
He wore a white vest with a white bow tie, and a mask similar to mine... a mixture of black and silver with intricate designs all over; but covered more of his face.
I walked up to him and whispered, "Nathan?".
He looked towards me and bowed; then offered his arm and led me to the dance floor.
It was a slow waltz and as we danced I couldn't help but stare at him. It hadn't crossed my mind before of how much he really DID look like Andy, especially his eyes.
It was unnerving at first, but I didn't care; I was having so much fun, it was almost magical!
We spent the whole night dancing, he was the perfect gentleman and for a few fleeting moments I wished he was Andy.
It was almost midnight and the countdown began; the lights dimmed slightly and Nathan stood there staring at me. The orchestra started playing as the clock struck twelve and a woman sang softly in the background...
Should old acquaintance be forgot... and never brought to mind... should old acquaintance be forgot... and days of auld lang syne.
As the first trickling of confetti landed on us he leaned in to kiss me, firm but soft, warm and sweet; he breathed his love and soul into me with that one kiss.
Then he stopped and I looked up at him; I reached up and took off my mask, then he removed his.
I couldn't have been more wonderstruck, I wrapped my arms around his neck and breathed into his ear...
"I love you Andrew!"
ANDY'S POV:
I was standing in a corner across the room when Amanda came in, she looked just like a princess.
I watched as she moved from person to person looking for a familiar face; when she came to me I prayed silently to myself. Please, don't know it's me!
She had a puzzled look in her eyes and asked, "Nathan?". I was relieved, I passed the 'look-a-like' test. I knew if I spoke, she would realize it was me; so I just bowed to her and led her to the dance floor.
We danced the whole night and my heart skipped a beat every time she flashed her gorgeous smile at me.
"5-4-3-2-1 HAPPY NEW YEAR!", everyone around us yelled.
I leaned in to kiss her and when our lips touched I was lost in ultimate bliss. At that moment it felt like we were the only two people in the room.
When I stopped she looked up at me, her face flushed with emotion.
She reached up and took off her mask, then it was my turn.
I was almost afraid of what her reaction might be, but there was no turning back now. I took a deep breath and removed my mask.
That beautiful smile covered her face again and she threw her arms around my neck.
I squeezed her tighter when she whispered in my ear, "I love you Andrew!".
I hadn't heard those words in months and I never wanted to lose them again.
The orchestra leader called for the last dance of the night, The Farewell Waltz. I wrapped my arm around her waist and she placed her hand in mine.
I held her close as we danced and we stared at each other like we were meeting for the first time.
The confetti that landed in her hair and on her shoulders sparkled in the light, she really did look like an angel.
When the music ended, I took her hand in mine to leave.
But the night wasn't over yet...
