Music.
It wasn't the obnoxious type nor the soft humming of violin strings being pulled together nor the light strumming of a guitar but rather the light sound of a piano. It was slight though as if it were in the opposite room. Perhaps it was Jordan, practicing the song he was going to sing for Chelsea during the ceremony.
I can just imagine.
The guys in the opposite room, I assumed, were pacing with their long strides as they fixed their black shiny bow ties and sprayed a scent of cologne countless times. Maybe they even checked to see if they remembered to put deodorant on or even tie the laces of their shoes because you know how guys are.
I bet they were much calmer than we were though since each one of us had to have looked in the mirror a thousand times.
Well, Chelsea did at least. She kept worrying if everything was in order, that and if the bouquet was here, if the rings weren't missing, if the dress looked all right, or if her hair or makeup looked out of line."Chelsea, you look beautiful." Her maid of honor, Maggie, encouragingly told her as she gave her a quick side hug. "Jordan would love you no matter what you looked like."
Indeed she was beautiful in her wedding dress, glittery heels, and hair that was styled in some sort of fancy side braid. All of the rest of us wore the same purple satin dress I had worn previously before and our hair was worn down but curled.
"Even if I was wearing my hair in a messy bun with a T-shirt and Converse?"
Maggie chuckled, "Yes, even that."
I peeked over Ann's shoulder who was calmly reading a book while seated in a plush chair. She must have been so into it that she didn't even notice me standing creepily behind her.
"Before she knew it, he took her hand."
I read verbatim out of the book.
"Come with me," he pleaded.
"I can't. They'll learn our secret--""Hey!"
Ann smacked me with the paperback book.
"I hadn't even gotten to that part yet.""Serves you right for ruining countless books for me."
She was about to come up with another comeback when she hesitated and then slowly nodded.
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
I softly laughed as she stuck her tongue out at me. "I thought so."
"What if I fall?" Chelsea almost laments in front of the mirror. "And make a complete idiot out of myself?"
"Then your Mr. Dallas will catch you for sure," I said, again peeking over Ann's shoulder to read another sentence aloud.
"I would rather die than not be with you."
"Stop it!"
"Sorry!"
I couldn't help it. I was just so giddy for some reason, probably because one of my friends was getting married on this very day--Valentine's Day. There was already a soft dusting of snow outside which added to the beauty of the day, but it wasn't as cold as we thought it should have been. It didn't matter though if it were or not, we were safely warm in the protection of this church.
Even if it was four years, it seemed like yesterday when we all came here to vacation; but I knew better than to bring that up. That topic hadn't been spoken about and had remained hidden in the backs of our minds since the last day we stayed here so bringing it up again after all these years would be detrimental, especially for Chelsea.
