It may not seem like it but yes, I do own dresses. There not super super elaborate or flower covered but dresses all the same. Mostly simple, solid color, perfect with cowgirl boots. So as I stand at my closet scanning them I try to figure out where we're going so I can pick out a dress fit for the occasion. I draw a blank so I just go with a solid blue, short sleeve, knit, knee length dress. I also pick out a brown belt to match my boots.

I go down to the bathroom and stare in the mirror for a while until I finally go get my tablet and look up some cute new ways to style my hair. Just because Eric called me Katniss once, I go with a new Mockingjay braid that totally fits my personality. For my own personal touch I slip in a gold flower hair pin that my grandmother gave me.

I'm not a fan of make up but I do put on a tiny bit of "Pink Frost" lip gloss. I try hard to wash all the dirt from under my stubby nails but it's no use. After a whole summer off dirt filled activities, my nails show it. At last minute I remember my charm bracelet and my sunflower necklace that my parents gave me when I was a baby.

I take a look in the mirror and see a girl I haven't seen in a long time. She's dressed up, with fancy hair, a nice dress, lip gloss, jewelry. And she actually looks like a girl. Not the tomboy she usually is. Overall though, the girl the looks back at me looks pretty. She does.

I go down stairs and pull on my cowgirl boots. Mom has stopped trying to convince me that they're not dress shoes. They go with almost all of my dresses and are surprisingly super comfortable. I pop a mint in my mouth and stand in the kitchen to wait for Eric. After a few minutes, Dad comes in and holds my hand. Maybe to intimidate Eric, maybe just because he's dealing with the fact that his little girl is going on her first date. I'll never know because I see Eric pulling into the driveway on his moped.

He comes to the door and knocks even though he can see me standing there. I open it and smile at the look he gives me.

"Hi." I begin.

"Hey. You look... amazing." He says as he steps inside.

"Thank you. Dad, do we have you're permission to go?" I ask.

"Yes. Be back by nine thirty." He kisses me on the forehead and I step out of the door with Eric.

"So where are we going?" I ask as I climb on behind him.

"We are going to our first stop." He answers with a smirk on his face.

"Ha ha. So funny."

We finally get to our first stop. The diner about five minutes from my house. I'm thankful we're alone. It may seem a little weird but I really do want to spend some time with Eric when I'm not caked with mud or holding weapon.

When the waitress reaches our table (she's actually a girl I know from school) we order two Cokes, two hot turkey sandwiches, and an onion blossom to share.
For a while we just don't really know what to talk about. Seems like all we ever have to talk about is Rylan or how good a shot each of us is. Finally he breaks the ice and asks.

"So, is this your first time?"

"On a date?"

"Yeah." This is a question that I think has an obvious answer.

"You've got to be kidding. Yes it's my first time. Like I've ever had a boyfriend."

"Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure there's a ton of boys at that school that are just dying to go out with you."

"Oh come on. You don't really think that."

"I do. Seriously."

"The only boy that I've ever really talked to be for I met you was..."

"Its okay. You can say his name. I know who your thinking."

"Anyway. All the boys would prefer a cheerleader before a student section girl."

"I wouldn't." He says and reaches over the table to take my hand just as our food comes. Lucky for him he gets another chance as he says grace.
We eat and he pays then we walk outside and he helps me onto the bike.

"Where are we going now?" I ask half hoping I'll get answer. Not lucky enough I guess.

"Our second stop." He answers.
