5:00pm
Darkness, darkness consumed me.
But it was slowly fading, and in the distance I could hear a voice.
"Kayla? Kayla? Is she ever going to wake up?"
The voice was faint, but slightly recognizable. It sounded like it was in a well, or just way far away. I knew the voice, but couldn't place who it came from. I knew who I wanted it to be though.
"Gee?"
"She's waking. Mom, dad, grandma, she's waking up."
I heard shuffling of feet, and felt arms around me, hugging me. Oh Gerard. It had to be my Gerard. It just had to be. He was okay, he was alive.
"Kayla. Can you hear me?"
All I needed was to open my eyes, and I'd see him. They fought me though, my eyes. I tried to open them, and they put up a resistance. But I won. I needed to see him, needed to hug him properly, needed to know he was alive and just fine. My eyes fluttered open, but who I thought was Gerard, was actually Mikey.
The tears threatened to spill from my eyes, but I willed them not to. Crying wouldn't solve anything, fix anything, nor bring Gee back home. So I wouldn't cry. Gerard would've hated it. No, Gerard would hate it. I have to stay positive, keep firm thoughts that he's still alive, just stuck in the city. If they weren't letting anyone leave, then he could just be there waiting to get out. That's it, that's got to be it.
Gerard is alive until I'm told otherwise.
That's all I can hope for.
"Kayla?"
I looked up at Mikey, and flung my arms around him.
"Please tell me you've heard something?"
I felt him shake his head 'no', and could feel him shaking from wanting to sob. Mikey always looked up to Gerard. He was the Batman to Mikey's Robin. They were best friends. How/why he was worried over me so much was mid boggling.
"We're still waiting for some news."
I nodded.
"What happened?"
"You fainted."
"What? How long was I out for?"
"About 5 hours. Your body just shut down. I told you Gerard wasn't here, and you fainted. Grandma thinks you went into shock. Dad and I carried you to the couch. Mom grabbed your car keys and got your overnight bag, and put it in Gerard's room for you, and grandma and I have been watching over you, making sure you were okay. We all agreed that if you were out for another hour, you were going to the hospital."
I nodded again.
"What time is it?"
Mikey turned his head to the clock on the wall.
"5:30pm."
"Shit."
"Now now Kayla, I thought you had a better vocabulary than that."
I turned to see Elena standing in the doorway of the living room. She had a small, sad smile on her face. Her eyes watery, and a tear or two spilled over. I got off the couch and ran to hug the woman. Donna came in right as I flung my arms around her mother, and hugged us both. I withdrew my arm, waving Mikey over. Donald walked in and cleared his throat. I looked up to see him. He looked worn out, underslept, and fragile. I walked over to him, and hugged him as if I would my own father. He stoke my hair, and held me like a daughter. i loved Donald. Durning normal times, he would be happy, upbeat, off the wall, and serious all at the same time. But now, now he was a lost man. Lost without his eldest son.
