"Today, we will be reading a poem," Mrs. Bristow says.
My English teacher walks across the front of the room, counting out pieces of paper for each person.
"I copied this, so you can write all over it, highlight it, you know."
I get passed the last sheet and scan over it briefly.
I see the word "death" and groan in annoyance."Okay, so I want everyone to read through the poem. It might take a few reads to fully understand it, which is fine, take the time you need. I'm going to write a question on the board, and when you're done, I want you to answer it. This is one of my favorite poems, so I hope you guys like it," she smiles as she walks to her desk and grabs a notecard.
Mrs. Bristow begins writing on the board and I look down at my paper.
THE DEATH OF LOVE
Oh love. Why is your body so still, why do your muscles sing no more, why does your chest not rise and fall.
Oh love. Why is your skin so cold, why do your eyes not trace my face, why do you not get up and accept my warm embrace.
Oh love. I have no regrets for our mistakes, no heart left to break, for you have taken it with you to the grave.
Oh love. Love that turned to death, death that turned to longing, longing that turned away from me, leaving me here to bear it alone.
Oh love. Oh love. Oh my love.

page 112I stare blankly at nothing in particular.
This is some kind of joke, right?
I sigh and sit back in my seat.
I read the board.Has someone/something you loved died and left you feeling alone or lost? Explain.
Most of these people are probably thinking of grandparents, or pets, or friends, or parents.
But I'm thinking about someone who is dead and made me feel like I've been found.I pull out a sheet of notebook paper and begin writing my answer.
Harry Styles
May 5No. There is something in between life and the afterlife. Once you find who you're looking for, they'll never make you feel alone. Sometimes you won't even be looking for them and they will be the one to find you. They'll make you their whole world, and love you to the moment it's their time to truly leave this planet. Until then, you'll be the missing puzzle piece that was lost under the couch for three years.
I'm the first to stand up and place my paper in the folder.
Mrs. Bristow looks at me and raises an eyebrow."You're sure?" She teases.
I sit down. "Positive."
