Storming into my room, I let myself fall onto the bed while realizing the bedsheets weren't changed in weeks.
Reminding myself that I deleted Luke's contact off my phone, I tried to not shed a tear and rubbed my closed eyelids with my palm. My chances of restoring a new friendship with Luke Hemmings went tragically downhill.
Naturally, I wouldn't even waste one single second thinking to him, especially when he dared to push me to my limits and almost making me relive the night I almost got violated. No, this incident might be the reason why I quit talking to him by deleting his contact but the happy memories with found their way into my mind, sending deep shivers down my entire body.
Guilt I grew washed over me and I felt my nose crunching and my eyes water. Who was my friend now? Michael? Although he and his father will live with us for an irrational amount of time, I remained uninterested in building up a closer bond. Don't get me wrong, he seems to be a cordial and an open-minded guy, but he never radiated the certain something.
On the other side, Calum did. His personality had something intriguing and although we both spend the entire High School and never in life created a close bond, the way he spoke to me made me feel like he made a big deal of choosing the right words and he was able to putting himself in my place.
But I knew I shouldn't be hanging out with people who are with me on one same level. Although I craved every hour to spend a day with him, my sister once told me I shouldn't be hanging out with people who are like me, depressed and insecure. A smile creeped upon my lips thinking back to my sister's her tender age, how she was capable of sounding like a wise monk.
She was correct, I have to avoid hanging out with people my sort. The only one in mind was Michael.
Speaking of the devil, while I was still battling with the thoughts flying around in my mind, I heard Michael stepping into my room, without giving any permission to walk in but I stayed silent. I wasn't in the mood to mess around with scoffing and hissing.
"June? Dinner is ready", he announced and nodded towards the open door. "Let's..." Only now he noticed my face, my eyes filled with salty tears. Instead of going downstairs and leaving me by myself as I would prefer, he let himself sink down on the bedsheets and snaked his arm around my shoulders, exactly like Luke did. This bold move made me flinch, but I kept my lips pressed together.
"Something is definitely wrong with you, you appear to be distressed." His beaming, green eyes didn't leave my face. Squirming around, I rubbed some paint stains from my pants and gave him an answer without returning his eye-contact.
"It is nothing. I'm okay I just..."
He let out a despised laugh. "Can you, like, stop lying? You look like a fucking wreck, quit saying it's nothing. Sorry for sounding harsh but I'm trying to help you. You did that to me, remember?"
Letting out a surprised breath, I finally faced him, shifting my body away from him. Opening my mouth, he shook his head and covered my mouth with his hand. "No, I want you to listen to me. Alright, we don't know each other for so long but at least consider what I'm about to tell you. You don't have to tell me what is wrong, but remember, whatever it is, I want you to think that there's always a way to solve a problem. No matter how bad it is."
He took his hand from my lips. "Sorry for taking you to that building. And by the way, I've never seen you smile before since we met. I want you to smile for me."
What was he expecting? My lips weren't made to laugh or smile. Dark thoughts and emotions were clouding my brain twenty-four-seven.
"I don't do... smiling", I replied monotonously and crossed my arms in front of my chest. "You cannot do anything against it."
He raised his chins and looked down at me, a smirk appearing on his lips. "Wanna play a round of truth or dare?"
"Michael."
"Oh, you picked truth? Okay, now answer this question as honest as possible. Are you ticklish?"
Raising both of my eyebrows I tilted my head to the side and shrugged, not changing my expression. "What do you mean?"
Michael let out a sigh, leaning forwards. "I'm asking you if you are ticklish. Won't you laugh if I do... this?" He pinched my side with his finger. "Or this?" Another pinch, this time on my thigh.
"Stop it." I scooted back and gave him a burning glance, protecting myself with my arms. "I said stop it!"
"Damn you're hell of a ticklish person."
He jolted forward, landing to my left-hand side and attacking me with his hands. A high-pitched laugh escaped my lips that filled the room. Unfortunately he was too stubborn to let go; I had no choice other than let out an undefined sound that reminded me of screaming and giggling uncontrollably. "God, Michael!"
"Everything okay up there, June?" I hear my mother yell across the house.
Although I didn't mean to do that, my instinct told me to fight back and I ram my knee straight into his crotch.
"Fuck!" He yelled out in pain, tumbling off my bed and landing on the ground with a harsh sound.
"June, I asked you if everything's okay."
"Mother, everything is okay!" I exclaimed and rolled off my bed, standing triumphantly next to the hurt boy. "Next time, you should think before you act." Smirking, I made why way through the door frame, stopping in my tracks and turning around. "Come on, Mikey, don't you want dinner?" A sarcastic and teasing undertone sneaked into my voice.
With those words, I raced downstairs. He actually made it, he made me smile for the first time in ages. It was hard to hear your own laugh once again.
