"If I said yes, would you be mad?" I said, and Kayla laughed.
"I can't believe you and Chad are kind of friends," Kayla said, and I smiled.
As soon as I got home the night before from my run and my encounter with Chad, I called Kayla and told her everything. Upon arriving to school the next day, she had to relive the entire interaction in person.
"Hey, that was the bell, I gotta go," Kayla said before rushing in the other direction. I walked to my locker to get my books and saw a group of guys circled around my locker. I approached them, keeping my head up and trying to look confident. Some curious eyes caught sight of what was beginning to unfold.
Obviously people thought I was crazy or something, because these guys were intimidating. At least, to most people. They wore the most expensive clothes and shoes and were so extremely attractive that it somehow made them the "popular guy" group.
"Hey," I said bluntly, standing to the side of their group. The guys standing in front of me turned, revealing me to the rest of the group.
"Hello, Abigail," a voice said, and I rolled my eyes. Chad pushed off my locker and walked towards me with a smirk.
"Hey, Chad," I said, becoming impatient with the crowd around my locker.
"What's up?" Chad asked nonchalantly. I rolled my eyes again, earning a laugh from his friends.
"You guys are in front of my locker," I said, and Chad grinned.
"Yeah, I guess we are," he answered, and I let out a sigh and pushed past him. The group backed up a little more, and I got to my locker.
"Hey, you...um. I'll see you later," Chad said with a smile, and I mentally cheered as he walked away.

"Yeah, and then he was like, 'yeah, we are, lemme be hot for a sec so everyone will get distracted and have no fucking idea what they're doing'," I imitated Chad with my best guy voice, and Kayla laughed and told me I had serious balls.
"Well, he was blocking my locker, I needed my locker, so he needed to move," I stated, walking out to my car.
"You know, you guys are like, perfect for each other," Kayla said, and I scoffed as I reached into the backseat to get a shirt. I stripped my bright purple shirt and put on a loose-fitting dark blue T-shirt. Of course, this very moment, these two and a half seconds I didn't have a shirt on, Chad and one of his friends decide to drive by.
"Looking good," his friend shouted. I flashed my middle finger and laughed at what they did next. Chad threw his truck in reverse, coming to a stop behind my car, and I sat in my jeep waiting to see what he would do.
"What was that for?" Chad asked, and Kayla sat beside me, holding in her laughs.
"Just flashing another thing you guys are never gonna get," I answered, and Chad looked at me with amusement.
"I like you, you're funny," he said, and I raised my eyebrows.
"Oh really?" I drawled, and he nodded. Him and his friend got out of the truck, and I was immediately confused.
"What're you doing Saturday night?" Chad asked, and I stepped out of the jeep along with Kayla.
"Hmm, I don't know," I said, playing with the ends of my hair.
"Well, there's this party at a friend's house, and if you go, make sure to find me," he said, walking back to his truck. Kayla and I watched as Chad and his friend drove away, and Kayla automatically started squealing.
"Oh my gosh! No fucking way! Chad just asked you to hangout! What the fuck! This is awesome!" She yelled, and I shook my head and laughed.
"I'm not going, Kayla," I said, and her face fell.
"What are you.. talking about? Don't you want to?" She said softly, and I could tell it was clearly her idea of a bonding experience, and as her new friend, I felt obligated to go.
"I can't. I had to move because I got caught at a party," I said, and her face looked even more crushed.
"But.. Abby. You're new... ish. It would be fun to get out there, ya know, meet some more people," she said, and I gave her a confused look.
"Eh," I grunted. She gave me a stern look until I caved.
"Okay, fine, I'll come, but only because I never want to see that face again," I said, and she smiled.
"Thank you!" she practically yelled, and leaned over and squished my head to her chest to give me a hug.
"Okay, now let's check out this mall."
