The car ride was silent, other than the radio that was played very quietly.
"Are you gonna tell me where we're going?" I asked, sitting up straight and examining the view from the window.
"Uh, no," he answered, switching hands to grip the steering wheel. His arm muscles flexed as his hand closest to his door held the steering wheel loosely. His arm closest to me rested on the middle console, propped up on his elbow. I could see his torso flex and move as his chest faced a little more towards me.
"Why not?" I asked. A small tug at my chest formed when his smile turned and looked at me.
"Because, it's a surprise," he said, and I pouted.
I hate surprises, a lot.
"I hate you," I said, crossing my arms across my chest.
"Mmm, you don't," he said, and I scoffed.
"Seriously, where are we going?" I asked again.
"Here," Chad said, parking on a makeshift parking lot on a field of grass.
"Well," I paused, looking around at the open field surrounded by woods. "The grass is nice."
"Shut up, it's not cool until nighttime," he said, opening the door and stepping out of the truck.
"What's at nighttime?" I asked, getting out of the truck and following him as he walked past the front of the truck.
"You'll see. C'mon, we have to hurry, it gets dark fast," he said, walking onto a path that started at the edge of the woods. I followed him, listening to the birds and nature filling up the silence.
We finally stepped into a small clearing, where a little log cabin with big windows sat quietly.
"What's that?" I asked, stopping next to him in front of the door.
He opened the door and motioned for me to go in first. I stepped in and looked around. It was a... store? Maybe a stock closet?
"What is this?" I asked, walking down the main isle with food and other things lining the walls.
"Abandoned cabin. People come and restock it every few days, and you can take whatever you need," he explained.
They have these places?
"Cool," I answered. I spun around and saw Chad picking things up and gathering them in his hands.
"What're you taking?" I asked, approaching him slowly.
"Stuff for tonight," he said, and he lifted a panel in the bottom shelf that was completely camouflaged before. He lifted out a small drawstring bag, which was usually used for sports. There were already items inside of it, plus the things he picked up from the shelves that he shoved in.
"C'mon, we gotta hurry, we'll miss it," he said, and we both left the small cabin. We completed the short walk down the path and emerged back into the field. Chad threw the bag onto the open tailgate of his truck bed. I hopped on the back and sat with my legs hanging off the edge as he went back into his truck again. A few moments later, he came out with a huge pile of blankets, and then he went back into the truck and came back with another pile.
"What the hell? What are you doing?" I asked, and he jumped onto the truck bed.
"Come here," he said, and I automatically obeyed and crawled over to him. I stopped and sat down on my knees about a foot in front of him.
"Come here," he repeated softly. I scooted closer, sitting directly in front of him. We both sat with our legs crossed and our knees touching.
"What?" I asked innocently, watching his eyes shift around, studying my face.
"Kiss me."
