*this chapter is currently unedited and is probably riddled with errors. I'll go over it tomorrow but for now, read at your own risk.*

This update is quite a long one and I made it like that because you've all been so amazing with your reads, votes and comments. Thank you all so much for giving this novel a go and I hope you stick with me till the end ;)

Image is of how I picture Cynthius (Michael B. Jordan), however you're free to picture whoever you'd like!

I'm sorry to put it off again, but the character recap won't be till the next chapter. I'm too tired to go through them all right now :P

Don't forget to vote, comment and fan, my darlings!

C13

"This...isn't too bad," Damien admitted with surprise as he took a bite of the salad I'd pulled together.

"It's just a salad," I laughed. "Don't sound so shocked," I teased as I took another bite of the tender chicken he'd marinated and cooked. "Where'd you learn to do this?" I managed to moan the question as a burst of flavour filled my mouth.

"My sister," he smirked, obviously pleased with my reaction as he watched me. I paused, raising an eyebrow before slowly swallowing.

"You have a sister?" I tentatively asked and his gaze fell to his plate.

"I did," he affirmed and once he'd scooped up a forkful of salad. "She was Isaac's fiancée actually. Human, adopted and murdered," he robotically listed off information I was sure he'd told many others before me. My chest ached as I thought about the pain he must've gone through and I knew, despite his nonchalant attitude, he really did love her.

"Were they human?" I gently whispered, my breath catching when his gaze snapped up to meet my own –like he was surprised I didn't just drop the subject. For a moment he stared at me, his blue eyes flickering with an array of indecipherable emotions.

He really is the only person I can't figure out.

"Yeah," he nodded and for the first time since I'd met him, his expression contorted with pain. His fingers curled into fists on the table and his knuckles whitened as he answered. "She was definitely killed by a human."

"And that's why you hate them...us," I quietly corrected.

"Not you," he seriously denied without hesitation and my heart jumped as a small smile tugged at my lips.

"Not me," I softly agreed.

"Tell me, cara mia-" he paused and I stiffened, desperately hoping he wouldn't ask about my past. "What have you noticed about the Hunters you've met so far?" a ghost of a smile flickered across his lips while a confused frown formed on mine.

"What have I noticed?" I repeated and he nodded, leaning back in his chair as he folded his arms across his broad chest.

"You're perceptive, aren't you? So what have you learnt about them?"

"Oh..." I trailed off, placing my fork back down when I scrunched my nose up with thought. "Cynthia and Orion are mates," I blurted the first thing that came to mind, my cheeks flushing when Damien raised an eyebrow and his lips quirked with amusement.
