Hey my loves!

So I know this is a shorter chapter than usual (much shorter, I know), but I wanted to upload something. Also, I wanted to give you guys a *nice* chapter because from here on out, it's going to get a bit crazy.

Anyway, please don't forget to leave your comments throughout and don't forget to vote if you liked it! I love criticism (as long as it's respectful), so if you have any, let me know! <3

C44

"Hey," a deep voice tenderly attempted to wake me, though rather than listen I simply swatted at the air, hoping that I'd be left to sleep. "Cara mia. You need to wake up," that same, wonderful voice prompted me and this time, I felt my eyelids flutter open. A smile tugged at the edge of my lips when I saw Damien was gazing down at me, his eyes filled with amusement. Slowly, I sat up from the slightly damp grass I was lying on, rubbing my eyes to help them adjust to the burning brightness as I gazed at the group of people surrounding me.

"Oh," I breathed, realising they all seemed to impatiently be waiting for me. "Um, sorry," I scrambled to get up, ignoring the burning of my cheeks as I looked to Damien.

"Now that the human is awake, we can all get a move on," one of the men sneered, obviously frustrated.

"This human just saved your Luna's life. Show some respect," Damien snapped back and instantly the man bowed his head, glancing over at me as he backed down.

"Wh-what time is it?" I asked softly, clearing my throat when I looked up to my mate. He tilted his head to follow the men now walking toward to a small town in the distance.

"I think we'd normally be having dinner around now. Xavier and a few others already went ahead with Ally. They got there about an hour ago. You fell asleep as soon as soon as we hit the road," he chuckled softly as I followed after him.

"It's late," I noted. "Who are they?" I whispered as I warily observed the large, muscular men trudging ahead of us.

"I didn't want to wake you so we took it slowly. They're here for your protection." I nodded at his answer, my entire body jolting in surprise once I felt Damien thread his fingers through my own. When I looked to him in shock, he simply squeezed my fingers tighter and while he didn't face me, I could see a slight grin tugging at the edge of his lips. "We usually shift outside of town. Sometimes humans pass through so we don't want them seeing something they shouldn't."

It didn't take us much longer to get to the town and as we strode through the town, I noticed there were no cars and plenty of people –most of which stared at us as we walked by.

In less than ten minutes, we'd crossed to the other side of town and finally stopped at the gated entrance of what looked to be a large, white mansion. By then I'd vaguely noticed that the men who'd been protecting us had disappeared.

It almost looks like the White House, I mused as I openly stared at the exterior.

"Xavier lives here, doesn't he?" I stated confidently as the gate effortlessly slid open. Damien bobbed his head in response.

"So will we," he added and as we entered the house, I found myself wrapping my arms around my body.

"It's so...big," I muttered, hesitating before following after Damien, trying not to get caught up in every detail of the house as we climbed the winding staircase.

"You don't like it?" he glanced at me over his shoulder and I swallowed nervously, silently trying to figure out how to make my answer sound polite. "I don't either," he chuckled lowly, clearly sensing my unease. "It's too much for my taste. But Xavier likes it and because he's the Alpha, that's all that matters." I quickly relaxed at his words, though I found myself automatically stiffening when we came to stop outside one of the many large oak doors lining the hallway.

"Is Ally in there?" I asked softly, biting down on my bottom lip when he nodded. "And she's...okay?" this time my voice was but a whisper. When he hesitated, my heart sank and I swallowed, focusing on the door once more.

"She will be," Damien assured me, gently threading his fingers through my own. "We all will be." With those words, he gently rapped his knuckles against the door, pushing it open when a grunted response echoed inside the room. "Xavier," Damien muttered, his gaze shifting from the man sitting hunched over by the bed in the centre of the room to the woman lying motionless on the bed.

"Damien," Xavier didn't look up as he acknowledged Damien's presence. "Human," Xavier glanced over at me, his glassy, emotionless eyes brushing over my body like I was but a piece of furniture.

"It's-"

"Juliet," I finished for Damien, tilting my chin up as I stared politely back at Xavier. "My name is Juliet."

"And why should I care?" Xavier challenged, a scowl twisting across his lips. I felt my heart skip a beat as he coldly glared back at me, daring me to give him reason to attack.

"Because if it weren't for me, your mate would be dead. Emmett would never have come if I wasn't there. I think you know that," I softly replied, my voice shaking as I stood up to the Alpha. Xavier remained silent at my words, his cold glare holding my own gaze.

"It was a mistake coming back here," Damien growled out when Xavier made no move to respond. Damien gently took my hand in his and just as he prepared to tug me out of the room, Xavier cleared his throat.

"You're right. My mate escaped and is alive because of you –because of the both of you. For that, I owe you my own life, Juliet," Xavier muttered, his now broken gaze looking back down to his mate. I smiled tenderly at his words, silently encouraging Damien to stay by squeezing his fingers. As I did, I looked down to Ally, my smile becoming one of sadness. If her skin wasn't so translucent and her lips so blue, I'd almost have thought her to be asleep.

"Xavier, I know this isn't the best time, but we need to discuss Juliet and-"

"She can stay...for now. My Luna and I will decide what to do when she wakes up," Xavier interrupted. "She'll take your room, I assume?" Xavier muttered and as I felt my cheeks flare with embarrassment, Damien simply nodded. "Be careful and look after her. Some of the men and women here don't particularly...like her kind." With that, Xavier waved us off, clearly wanting to be alone with his injured mate.

Damien bowed his head and looked to me, offering me a slight smile before he thanked Xavier and pulled me from the room, gently shutting the door behind us. Then, almost like an excited puppy, he hurriedly tugged me down the halls and before I knew it, I was being carefully pushed into another of the many rooms.

"Juliet," Damien breathed, as I gazed around the biggest bedroom I'd ever seen. I found myself gasping at the enormous bed in the centre of the room, though my eyes soon were drawn to a door to the left, a door I could see led to a bathroom. "Mi amore," Damien murmured this time, obscuring my vision to look down at me, a sweet smile lighting up his features. He cradled my cheeks and carefully, without hesitation, he gently pressed his lips against my own. "Sei bellissima." After those sensual, foreign words rolled off his tongue, I pulled him in for another kiss, though this one was so much more passionate than the first.

I wanted- no...I needed to show this man how I felt. To show him that he meant more to me than words could ever say.

So, as he lifted me up and we stumbled back to the bed, our hearts now beating as one, I found myself pausing so I could concentrate on sending my thoughts to him.

Tu sei la mia luce, il mio amore, la mia anima.

He grinned at my attempt at mentally speaking one of the four phrases in Italian I'd learnt from Cynthius's book and, as his hand slipped under my shirt and my own fingers worked to undo the buckle of his belt, I couldn't help but smile back, excited for the future I could now see.
