Chapter 3

Mackenzie PoV
Arriving at the City of Bones, creepy. Once we stepped out of the van, the place gave me chills. I was standing beside Alec, so I held his hand, because I was scared. ''This place isn't creepy. Not at all'' Simon said, looking at the bridge above the place.

''Don't tell me you're afraid?'' Izzy asked ironically, rolling her eyes.

''Are you kidding me? I was born afraid, which sounded a lot better in my head'' Simon said.

''Let's check it out'' Alec suggested and walked who was still holding my hand. We were looking around, to see if anything unusual was here and Alec let go of my hand when my brother came and joined us. ''If something goes wrong, if something happens to her, that's on us. You know that right?'' Alec questioned my brother.

''Yeah. And you know exactly what would happen if Valentine gets the cup before we do. She's lost everything Alec. I know exactly what that feels like. What's your problem with her anyway? Your family always used to welcome strays'' Jace said.

''You and Mack were never strays'' Alec told my brother.

''The point is, nothing's changed. We're in this fight together. There's just one more of us'' Jace reassured us and looked at Clary. ''Clary, come on, it's all clear''.

''I can do this'' Clary mumbled when we stopped walking and was at a door with a skeleton on it.

''Yeah you can'' her mundane friend said. ''You're Clary freakin' Fray. You can do anything'' Simon finished, and started to walk, but was stopped by my brother.

''All right hold up''.

''Surprised, surprised. No mundane allowed. Just like in the training room, right? Wrong!'' he told my brother. ''I've seen every horror movie ever made and the funny best friend left behind...dead'' Simon explained, while Izzy snickered.

''You're not that funny'' I added and Clary and Simon glared at me. ''But by all means, go ahead. Of course, the minute you enter, you'll die'' I finished.

''The problem is, now I don't trust you'' Simon told all of us.

''She's not lying'' Alec said. ''The rune energy of the City of Bones will kill any mundane who enter. So please-'' Alec pointed at the door.

''The Brothers creep me out'' Izzy spoke up. ''I'll mind the mundane'' she offered.

''Your sacrifice is noted, Izzy'' my brother said and Izzy smiled.

''Talk about sacrifice, I'm missing financial analysis class'' Simon told Clary, making me roll my eyes.

''I cant be here anymore'' Alec sighed. ''So Jace, I'm going to mind the perimeter''.

''I'll go too'' I added, following Alec. The both of us turned around and saw Jace and Clary went in and Izzy was with Simon.

We were gathering around the fire, well mostly Simon. Alec and I was leaning against the cabin.

''So is cracking someone's mind open supposedly to take this long? Maybe we, or you, should go check?'' Simon asked.

''Jace has it covered'' Alec answered.

''Take my word for it. The Silent Brothers are quite unpleasant" Izzy added.

"That's not helping. Not at all. What if Clary can't handle the Brothers?" "What if-" Simon kept asking so Alec interrupted him.

"It literally never stops talking" Alec said, making me smile.

"Is he always do charming?" Mundane asked, pointing at Alec.

"Firstborn. Heavy is the head that wears the crown" Izzy sarcastically said, making me laugh a bit and I decided to lean on Alec's shoulder and hold his hand again.

"I feel his pain. Only son. Mother wants me to be CPA" Simon said, making me confused.

"And you? What do you want?" Izzy asked, crossing her arms.

"Well, I'm in a band" he replied, making me sigh in annoyance.

"What type of music?" My parabatai asked, grinning. "Let me guess. Indie rock?" Simon nodded his head, smiling. "Got anything on your phone?"

"I do. We recorded out last set. It's-" Mumdane stopped talking when he touched all of his pockets. "I left my phone in the van".

Let's go get it" Izzy suggested. I nudged Alec's arm because he wasn't paying attention at all. When he did, he was Simon and Izzy leaving.

"Where us it going?" he asked.

"We'll be right back" she informed us and she and Simon left.

Minutes later, Claryy storms out od the cabin, followed by Jace. Clary was and Alec and I looked at her. "What happened?  What did she find out?" I asked my brother.

"Valentine is Clary's father" he replied.

"Wait a minute. You're telling me that thus girl shows up out od nowhere and she's Valentine's daughter? Did it occur to you that she might be a spy? This might be part of her plan" Alec partly accused her.

"Alec" I have him a warning tone.

"Do you think I planned to my mom to get kidnapped? Or for Dot to be taken? Or to have a giant sword dangle over my head and find out that my father is one I the most dangerous people in the world?!" Clary yelled and then I saw Izzy coming back, with no Simon. "Where's Simon?" Clary asked.

"I told him to stay in the van. I've searched everywhere" Izzy replied.

"He's gone?! You were supposed to protect him! Simon" Clary yelled, running to the van. "Simon? Simon?"

"Is that the mundane's name?" we heard a male voice say. We all looked up and saw 2 vampires holding Simon upside down. "I'm afraid Simon's coming with us".

"No! No, he's not part of this!" Clary yelled.

"And it will be my pleasure to kill you unless you return him" Jace threathened.

"Careful. We'd be violating the Accords" Alec said another rule.

"Right now I don't care about the rules" I muttered.

"I'm afraid your sidekick's quite right. The night children have broken no laws. We're negotiating. The mundane unharmed, in exchange for the Mortal Cup. And the clock is ticking. Tick tock people" the name one said and they disappeared.
