Chapter 13

Mackenzie PoV

I was in my room when me, Alec and Isabel got back. Then I heard a knock. ''It's open''. I heard the door open, I turned around and Alec was her. ''Alec? What are you doing here?''

''I couldn't stop thinking what happened earlier. Who's Luke? How do you know him?'' Alec questioned.

''Uh...can I not say. It's probably best if everyone was here'' I told him.

''Yeah. Sure. Totally'' he said and he was just standing in front me and there was silence between us. It was a bit awkward.

''So...anything else?'' I asked, smiling a bit. He was about to answer but Isabel came in talking about her mom then my brother and Alec was mad with him. Then Alec's and Isabel's dad came in with their little brother.

''Daddy'' Isabel greeted.

''Max'' me and Alec said and Max ran towards us. Alec hugged him first then me and I carried him. ''You're growing up'' I sighed, putting him down. ''What are you doing back so soon?''

''Got in trouble in Mumbai'' Max replied.

''What did you do?'' Alec asked.

''Nothing'' he said.

''He started a fire with his stele during rune studies'' Robert answered and I chuckled.

''I was hungry!'' Max defended himself. ''I was trying to draw the Nourishment rune''.

''Those two runes look nothing alike Max'' Alec said.

''Well they do to me'' Max told us.

''Max'' Robert said and Max turned to look at him. ''Go up to your room, open the grey book and look up the Extinguish rune''. Max sighed and left. ''Where is Clary Fairchild?'' Robert walked towards to Alec. ''Your mother says she's missing''.

''She's not missing. She's with Jace'' I told him.

''Why aren't you with them?'' Robert asked and I looked at Alec.

''Just didn't want to'' I lied.

''Ok. Anyways, we can't have that girl out of Institute control'' Robert informed us. ''The entire Shadow World is looking for her. It's a security risk. Get them both back here now'' he demanded and left my room, followed by Izzy. So I took my phone and called Jace.

''Jace you're on speaker with me and Alec'' I said.

''You need to get back to the Institute'' Alec said.

''You need to help me first'' Jace said.

 ''No, I'm not messing around.''

''Me either. I need your help'' Jace said, worried.

''You okay?'' I asked.

 ''I'm fine. It's Magnus. Alec, he needs your powerful Shadowhunter energy, or something like that'' Jace explained and i was a bit confused and jealous.

''Magnus...Why does Magnus need me?'' I questioned.

''To help save Luke's life'' Jace answered and that I'm with.

''No, I told you at the wolf den, no more Downworlder business. We can't be seen as interfering with a pack alpha dispute. How can you even ask me-''

''I shouldn't have to ask you, Alec. We're parabatai'' Jace cut him off.

''That's exactly my point!''

''Alec, you're a man of honor, and the only person in the world I would trust with something like this. I'm counting on you to do the right thing'' Jace told him and hung up and it was silent.

''So...are we going to help?'' I questioned Alec.

''Maybe. I need to talk to my mom'' Alec walked away and I followed. I just don't know where I would go. I need Alec all the time. Alec entered his mother's room and I was waiting outside. I don't know how long I was waiting but it seemed like forever then Alec came out. ''My mother needs to talk to you'' Alec told me.

''For what?'' I asked and he shrugged.

''Will I wait for you?'' he asked.

''No. I'll be fine. Go to Izzy'' I said and he left and I entered his mother's room. ''Alec said you needed to talk to me?'' I asked.

''Yes, I do. Sit down'' she ordered and I did what she told and she wasn't speaking she was staring at me then she spoke up. ''Do you love my son?''

''What?'' I asked.

''Do you love Alec?''

''Yeah, he's my best friend'' I answered.

''Not like that. As in 'In Love' with him?'' she asked, making it clear and I didn't answer. ''Well don't. I want the best for my son and I don't want some girl I adopted ruin his reputation'' she hissed and I was a bit mad.

''Why are you telling me this?'' I asked, being calm.

''I'm planning something. I want you to tell him'' Maryse said.

''Why me?'' I asked.

''Because I could see in his eyes he loves you. So I want you, to break his love for you'' she said, softly and I could feel tears forming into my eyes.

''What if I don't?''

''Then you stay away from my son and I will tell everyone, your secret, about your connection with Luke'' she threatened.

''Are you blackmailing me?'' I asked and she didn't answer, but I knew it's a yes. ''What do you want me to do?'' I asked.
