Taylor
I found myself in the center of Times Square with a bandage over my wrist. Violet was behind me, and she looked very confused.
"Taylor..." She started. Her tone did not sound as nice as it usually did.
"What?" I asked in my usual peppy voice.
"You have some serious explaining to do." She responded rudely.
I was confused. Why was I outside? Wasn't I at my apartment earlier? And why was Violet so mad?
"Why do you work for them?" She asked.
"Work for who?" I responded.
"Don't play dumb. I know you're a MindTravel ambassador!" She yelled.
I chuckled. "I'm not an ambassador for them. They ruined my life. Why would I work for them?"
"That's what I'd like to know." She approached me as she said this. She pointed to my right foot.
I followed her movement. There was a tiny, gray orb on the side of my ankle, with a small glowing light in the center.
"What's that?" She asked.
"Uhh, I don't know. I've never seen that before." I responded truthfully.
"Listen Taylor. I need you to tell me the truth. Stop playing dumb. You know something that I don't, and I need you to tell me. How come we were in your apartment 20 minutes ago, then all of the sudden you ran out the door? How come your movements weren't human, and looked robotic? How come you went to MindTravel and met up with a robot? How come the robot said you were an ambassador?" She spat questions at me at an insanely fast pace.
"Listen, I have no idea what you're talking about. It's probably a side effect of the simulation of something. Doesn't everyone get weird side effects?" I asked.
"Yeah. Everyone gets weird side effects. However, not everyone is called an 'ambassador' by the officials at MindTravel. Not everyone has a blinking dot on their foot. Not everyone goes and gets an injection without putting up a fight." She answered.
"So my results are abnormal?"
"Yes." She responded.
Violet
I thought about Taylor's situation. Not everyone got these weird side effects. And as much as I didn't want to, I believed Taylor. She wouldn't lie about being an ambassador. MindTravel was up to something, and I was determined to figure it out.
"We're going to figure all this out, I promise." I assured Taylor.
I started walking towards MindTravel again. Taylor followed.
Once inside, the same robot from before greeted me.
"What do you need?" Said it's sickening voice.
"Fix my friend." I responded simply.
"Why? For she is not broken. You are." It said.
"What are you talking about? I want the injections out of her and that stupid blinking dot gone. Just tell me how to fix her." I said.
"I'm sorry, that is a breach to our system. You are prohibited from knowing this information. Please leave our ambassador here and leave. You have ten seconds to remove yourself from our premises before we go into system lockdown." It said.
I folded my arms over my chest.
"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." It counted down.
A red light flashed over the whole room and a deafening alarm sounded. The doors and windows were covered in a metal screen. We were locked inside the lobby. Taylor was panicking behind me.
"Ambassador Swift, follow me please. Young child, stay put." The robot said.
Taylor's breathing got heavy. She was freaking out. In one quick second, she went from having a panic attack to being completely calm. She moved in front of me. Her movements were robotic again, and the light on her ankle was blinking. She approached the robot, and then disappeared into a doorway. The doors locked behind her.
I was alone.
I had finally figured out what was going on. She was under mind control. But who could be behind this?

I'll give you a hint - it's a character that is semi-important to Violet, but hasn't really been discussed in the story yet.
