Chapter 20: Meziku's Good-bye

I woke with a start. "If Meziku isn't with Terra, then where could she be?" I asked myself. I looked and saw it was still dark out. I went to a little stone outcrop and sat down on the largest one. "Meziku, where are you? if your not with Terra then where are you my dear friend, I miss you more than anyone knows, I want you with me" I howled. I didn't feel anything so I laid there and went back to sleep. "Rena wake up!" a voice yelled. 

"Is that you, Meziku?" I asked. "Yes" she said. I woke up and looked at her. "Meziku, where are you exactly?" I asked her. She chuckled. "I'm in a higher place" she said simply. "A higher place?" I cockd my head in confusion.  "Don't worry about it Rena" she said swinging her hair. 

"She looked at me curiously. "Have you been eating enough?" she asked me. "Whenever I can" I answered.  "What about the others?" she asked. "They too" I said. "What about you, what's it like?" I asked her. "Ugh, it's kinda of boring to be honest with you, but it does have its perks" she said. 

"What kind of perks?" I asked. "One of them is that I can watch over everyone and see what they're doing. I've done it a lot to you and the gang" she said. I looked at her in surprise. "Really?" I asked. "Oh yes,  you and the group are so fascinating" she replied. "If only I was still alive" she said. "But you  are" I said, almost pleading.

 "Thanks Rena" she smiled a sad little smile. "Why do you think of me?" she asked. I looked at her then sat crossed legged and sighed. "I think it's because I feel like it's my fault that you were murdered" I said, putting my head down. "Oh Rena" she said tearfully. I could feel my own eyes wet with unshed tears. "Rena I am free and that's all I could ever wish for, you need not to avenge my death, live your life as much can" she said, unfurling a pair of white wings. 

I gasped in astonishment. "You see I am free" she giggled and flapped her wings. "I'm guessing another perk?" I asked her, my head cocked to one side. "Yes but only when I have overcome my sorrow and have done all that I could on Earth could I get my wings " she said with a smile. "Wait that means your done on Earth?" I asked with surprise. "Yes as I part with these words Rena: love with all your heart. Never forget who you are and know that even though I'll be gone know that I'll be in your heart" she said.

 I looked up and blinked at her. "Oh and Rena" she said. "Yes Meziku?" I asked, not wanting her to go. "Don't forget to forgive" she said as she flapped her wings and headed off into the sky. "Good-bye Meziku and thanks for everything" I howled as I started to wake up. "Rena! Rena! wake up!" I heard someone yell, I woke up fully and looked around to see Sora and the others looking at me. "What's going on?" I asked.

 "You were howling in your sleep" S.J. said. I blinked slowly. "I was?" I asked. "Um yeah you were" Kyoshi said. "I'm sorry for scaring you guys" I said, walking out and going to a rock outcrop that had a big flat rock, I jumped up on it and laid down on my side. "You okay, Rena?" I heard someone ask, I looked over my shoulder to see Silver in her wolf form. "Yeah, I'm fine" I said a little harshly. 

Silver was unaffected by my tone and jumped next to me, laying long ways to where her head was on my shoulder. "The stars are pretty tonight" she said brightly. "Hmm, yeah" I said, looking up at the sky. "I wonder if Meziku can see us" Silver said. "She could" I said, softly. "What all did she say to Ray?" She asked. Silver never misses anything. 

"She told me good-bye and left" I said simply. "She said something else, I know Meziku" she said, her blues eyes looking straight into my red ones. I sighed. "She said for me to love with all my heart, never forget who I am and know that even though she's gone, she'll be with me in my heart and to forgive" I said the last part quickly. Silver looked at me then back to where everyone else was sleeping for the long journey home. "That's Meziku for you" Silver said with laughter in her eyes. She got up and stretched. 

"Night Rena" she said. "Night Silv" I looked back to watch her curl up with S.J. and Kane and Kyoshi. I looked back at the sky and the stars and laid down and stared at them for a good minute and saw a new constellation the same shape and size as Meziku with her little wings attached to her. The stars seemed to whisper I'll be with you always I heard in Meziku's voice. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep. I woke up to S.J.'s nose in my face. "Go away" I said irritable to him.

 "Auntie Rena, wake up" Kane said, jabbing his paw into my side, I rolled  over to him. He squealed in mock terror as I got up and started batting him with my nose. S.J. seeing that there was no danger started nipping at my tail, I thumped it as he tried to grab it using his teeth. I growled softly and grabbed him and pinned him down. "I win" I said to him. "Hmmph, all right" he snorted. Kane and S.J. trotted off to go play elsewhere.

 I stayed there on the rock looking at everyone. Sora looked up at me and smiled as he wagged his tail. I wagged mine in acknowledgment, Meka and Akoya were by Axel's grave, I walked over to them, they turned toward me. I stopped as I saw their swollen eyes. "Go and get sleep" I told them gently.

 They looked like they would refuse, but they saw my eyes and went off to go to sleep, I watched them curl around each other and drift off to sleep. I looked at Axel's grave and realized that it was missing something, I got up and grabbed a flower from a nearby tree. I plucked it gently and placed it on Axel's grave. "Thank you for everything my dear friend" I said as I bowed my head. I lifted it up and headed back to the others, I looked back to watch the flower flutter into the wind.
