The sun was bright as we emerged from the ground. We had somehow ended up out of town and in the forest. The area was just thickly settled enough for us not to be able to see the tall buildings of the town in the distance, but to be honest in that moment I wasn't entirely sure we were even remotely near Magnolia. I turned to Rose. "We could be found at any moment. We don't know for sure if we were followed either, so we need to cover our tracks." Rose looked at me and nodded in agreement. The only problem then was knowing where to go. I knew we had to keep moving but in which direction? How would we know where the others were? Did any of that matter as long as we were alive? I didn't know. I readjusted Sylvia on my back and began to walk in a direction. Rose walked beside me cautious of everything around her. We didn't talk, we didn't even try to make light of the situation. Even if we had known the full extent of the situation I'm not sure we would have. Sometimes when we heard a sound we'd stop and hide behind trees, only to find an animal wondering on its way. Rose was very quiet, she had been since the attack. As we walked I would catch her glancing at Sylvia. To see a friend in so much pain was so hard on her but Sylvia was only the first.
The further we walked the more thickly settled the area became, until finally we came to a clearing. I propped Sylvia up against a tree. "Rose I need you to watch Sylvia. I'm gonna check out the area." Rose nodded. Walking out into the clearing I was careful of my surroundings. I looked all around me. When I looked up the sky was dark, but not dark like the night sky. It was as if great mountians of smoke had engulfed the sky. There was no doubt in my mind it was coming from the guild. We had lost everything. Yet this was only the the beginning.
"Do you see anything?" Rose asked from behind a tree in the distance.
"No, but it'd probably be best of we kept moving."
I picked up Sylvia and began to carry her on my back again. After that we began our journey deeper into the forest. We walked for hours on end and for most of it Rose was silent. I could imagine her thoughts but I couldn't help her with her fears. Everything she knew, everything we knew was gone. We couldn't help but wonder what had become of our parents. If we would ever see them again. And finally what would become of us. The attack had come as such a supprise to everyone. We didn't even know who they were, who our enemies were. They came and separated us all but we knew we had to find one another again.
"What do you think happened at the guild hall after we left?" Rose stopped. I turned around to look at her. Images of the smoke rising high in the sky flashed though my mind.
"I'm sure they handled it and once we find everyone I'm sure Mirajane will come looking for all of us." I smiled.
"You're probably right." She smiled back.
As we continued on the bleak light shining through the trees began to disappear as the night as the night sky appeared. The thought of stopping and setting up camp popped in my head more than once but each time the thought occurred I knew we had to keep moving. Although I hadn't seen anyone earlier it didn't mean we weren't being followed now. Forests are full of bandits and most of them know magic. If we were to set up camp and make a fire they would find us for sure.
Suddenly we heard a scream from within the forest. Rose looked at me and I could tell we had the same thought.
"Do you think...?" She asked.
"I'm sure of it." We both began to run in the direction of the scream, running as fast as we could. "Layla!"
Running through trees dogging roots and branches we began to see flashes in the distance. There was a change in the air around us and closer we got the more powerful it felt. It was them I could smell it. Running into the unknown we could hear voices in the distance but we couldn't quite make words of them, however the closer we got the clearer they became.
"Layla get down and put up some defense!" A familiar voice yelled. Suddenly the flashes of light were no longer inconsistent flashes they become one solid light pulsing very close by.
"Rose! Get down!" I had figured it out but I only had enough time to get the girls down and use myself as their shield. The electric pulses went out in one large explosion. Covering the girls I braced for impact, only to find I hadn't been hit. When I opened my eyes and looked around us. A water shield. I turned my attention to Sylvia who was sitting up with her hands extended out holding up the shield surrounding us. You could see the strain in her face. There was no doubt she was in pain. Looking outside of our shield I watched the electric current stop coming at us.
"You can drop it now Sylv." I smiled.
Suddenly the water shield dropped to the ground and the strain in Sylvia's face faded, her body became limp, and her eyes began to open slowly as she lay there on the ground motionless. "Thanks" I smiled. Sylvia opening her eyes was the first sign that she would be ok. However there was no doubt in my mind that she had used the last of her strength, and every bit that she had recovered to protect Rose and myself. With Layla near by I knew we had a chance to help Sylvia, but first we had to get to Layla.Sylvia's eyes closed and she grew paler. I tossed her on my back, and grabbed Rose. "Come on, we gotta go." We ran towards the area where the light came from. "I can smell them!" We didn't know exactly where the lightning came from but I could smell them and I knew we were there? I stopped in my tracks and surveyed the area.
"Where are they?" Rose turned to me. Suddenly lightning struck down from the sky, barely missing me.
"Hey watch it Hikari!"
There was some rustling in the trees Rose and I both prepared ourselves for a fight. Suddenly a small blonde girl jumped down from it. Her hair long and fell in her face, her skirt was torn and covered in dirt. She was covered in scrapes and bruises, however none of injuries seemed to serious.
"Luna... it's Luna!" She ran toward me.
"Hey squirt." I hugged her. "Where's Hikari?" I asked. Layla looked to her left and out of the darkness came Hikari.
"Sorry about the lightning, we thought you guys were more bandits. Guess we were wrong" She said. Her face was very serious looking then suddenly it changed to a slight smile. "It's nice to see some familiar faces but we shouldn't stay long."
I looked at the girls. "She's right, you guys just put on a major light show that's sure to attract some attention".
