Mirajane gave us rooms to share. Layla and I shared as we normally would and Kaen shared with Zoku. The girls stayed on one side of the guild and the boys on the other. Mirajane was just as motherly as ever, helping everyone settle in. The younger ones such as Layla, Sylvia, Rose, and Rin adjusted much quicker than the rest of us. I rarely left my room for the first days.
Mirajane decided that we should suprise our parents by improving our abilities and getting stronger. She set up a sparing ring in the upper area of the guild. Everyday at three we would go there and practice. First we sparred with those around our age next we sparred with those around our level. Hikari would watch but never partisipate. She'd lean against the wall and smirk. I always said it was because she was too afraid to actually fight me. I know better now.
This lasted for five days. On the sixth day everything went wrong. It happened early in the morning, the day had only begun. I'm not sure where it started. The sounds of bombs going off all around us, Screams that went on for miles, the shaking of the earth under our feet. It was the day I learned why people retreat.
We were all in our beds waiting for the sun to rise and wake us. Little did we know that what would wake us would not be the sun but the screams of innocent people and the smell of smoke.
*BOOM*
"Lu. What was that?" Layla shot up.
"I don't know, but I plan on finding out." I jumped out of bed and ran to the window. I could see the smoke rising from the east side of town. Layla wasn't yet tall enough to look out the window, she's much taller now. I turned to her then.
"Get your shoes on. We're leaving." I ran to my bed side and pulled up my socks and threw on my shoes as fast as I could. I helped Layla, grabbed my bag and ran out of our room.
When I opened the door I saw Mirajane going from room to room waking everyone up. Layla and I were both now dressed to go, ready to fight, ready to defend our guild. Mira saw us and told us to follow Hikari. Sylvia and Rose came out of their room.
*BOOM*
The earth shook and the ceiling began to crumble over top of us. I grabbed Layla and prepared to shield her but just then Elfman stopped it. At that time I was unaware of of his return from his job with Evergreen. However it was a pleasant surprise.
"GO!" He yelled at us. I grabbed Layla's hand and ran.
"Wait! What about Kaen?" Layla wailed as I pulled her down the stairs. Rose and Sylvia followed running at a distance behind Layla and I, while Hikari led the way.
"He has Storm, Zoku, and Rin with him. He'll be fine." Hikari yelled turning her head toward Layla with a reassuring smile.
We ran through the rubble of our guild as the ground shook. As we reached the first floor we saw our guild mates, our family, pushing back against the doors as if keeping something out and I suppose they were since at that very moment the doors burst open and an army of wizards rushed in. Chaos consumed everything. There was no time to pause and watch, we had to keep going. We ran toward the back of the guild toward the room I had never entered.
Suddenly pillars collapsed behind me separating Rose and Sylvia from us. Hikari stopped in her tracks.
"Take Layla, I've got this!" I yelled toward her. She quickly nodded taking Layla's hand.
"Luna!" Layla screamed
"Fire Dragon Wing!" I took out the pillars. My eyes widened as I saw a man in a trench coat slowly walking forward out of the crowd holding Sylvia up by her hair, while Rose was running toward him with sword in hand and a circle of swords following behind her.
He kept a straight face and with wave of his hand he threw her against the wall.
"Release her!" I yelled, taking his attention away from Rose. He looked up at me and started to move toward me. "Release her!". Flames filled my hands. "And fight me!" He stared at me as if he were intrigued. Ten feet away from me he stood. Throwing Sylvia, with all his force, at my feet. The flames disapated from my hands as I bent down over her, moving her hair out of her face. Her closed eyes twitched.
Anger filled my face I looked up bringing my focus back to him. His straight face changed to a sinister grin. All of a sudden his eyes flashed orange and with a wave of his hand my body slammed into the ceiling, the floor, and then a side wall. I picked myself up off the floor and wiped the blood leaking from my bottom lip. I ran at him.
"Fire Dragon Kick!" I managed to kick him in the jaw. His eyes turned a piercing blue color. A high frequency noise shot through my ears causing my eyes to be unable to focus. He threw me backwards, forcing me to the ground. Through the blurs I watched him readjust his jaw. The screeching stopped and I turned to see Rose. She looked at me and watched my eyes move toward the never entered room. She nodded and began to pick up Sylvia. I stood up, facing him. Knowing my stance was shaky; I was easy prey. I turned my head to make sure Rose and Sylvia escaped.
"Focus on the fight at hand!" He pulled my feet out from under me. Suddenly I was being pulled across the room, toward him, and fast. Sliding across the floor I manged to grab a table leg. Unfortunately that didn't stop the pull. I pulled the table in front of me seconds before reaching his grasp. Causing the table to collide with him. This gave me enough time to stand up and try and get away. I had to protect Rose and Sylvia. I ran across the guild hall back to where I had one come from to fight this battle. I turned around to see the man standing up and about to attack again.
"Fire Dragon Roar!" Even if he could disapate the flames he wouldn't be able to do it fast enough. And just like that I was gone.
When I entered the room it was empty. I could smell them I knew they were there. I followed their scent to chair with a lightning bolt engraved on it. I looked around, as this was where the trail ended, there was a small marble rolling around on the floor. If it hadn't been for the fact that Hikari used to throw those at me I might not have known what it was. This marble like thing contained electricity, kinda like lacrimas. I picked it up and began to search some more. They couldn't have just vanished. I had to work quick knowing that creepy guy was most likely soon to follow. I looked at that chair one more time knowing that this was the last place they were. There was a crystal on top of the chair. That's when I realized it. The lightning chair of the master, the electric marble left behind, and the crystal on top. If I broke the marble on the crystal it would send electrical energy like lightning through the crystal, this would then activate the crystal to... well at that time I had no clue what would happen but breaking things sounded as good a plan as any. I slammed the marble on the chair, energy came flowing out and into the crystal. Suddenly the floor behind the chair went down and turned into stairs. I could see the energy begin to flicker out. Running down the stairs, the door to the room was thrown against the wall. Luckily the flicker of energy went out and I had made it down the passage way and watched the stairs behind me turn back into floor behind me.
"Weird..." I continued down the path since there was no turning back. Walking in the pitch black darkness I followed Roses scent, running my hands across the close walls of the hall. For once in my life I was a little afraid of what I might find.
